Essential Job Duties |
The Business Officer plays a vital role in managing the administrative, financial, and research operations of the Center for Research in Scientific Computation. Reporting to the Business Manager in the Department of Mathematics, this position provides comprehensive support for HR actions, financial transactions, and budget management across state and grant-funded projects. It also serves as a key resource for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial management, including transaction processing, reconciliations, budget justifications, no-cost extensions, and compliance monitoring.
- Provide pre-award and post-award support to Principal Investigators (PIs), assisting with budget development, sponsored project administration, and financial reporting.
- Act as a liaison for the Center, collaborating with Mathematics and the College of Sciences on research administration.
- Monitor all expenditures and funding sources to ensure proper allocation, compliance, and allowability.
- Verify salary distributions and assist with payroll adjustments, re-budgeting, and closeout reconciliations.
- Manage administrative operations, supporting the Center Director, faculty, and students with HR processes, event coordination, and general inquiries.
- Maintain accurate records of financial projects and cost-matching commitments, ensuring timely and informed decision-making.
- Manage and collaborate with leadership to develop and maintain the Center's digital presence, including website updates, digital asset management, and online communications.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Experience working with budgets
- Familiarity with grants and research administration
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience with GoogleWorkspace, gsheets/excel

Preferred Qualifications |
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible office management in a research oriented environment.
- Experience with WordPress or other web-content systems
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Easily able to adapt to change and change course when necessary
