POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a Vehicle Application Specialist to manage and coordinate engineering projects for both production contracts and sales opportunities. This key role requires acting as the primary technical liaison, ensuring clear and effective communication between customers and our internal engineering teams. You will focus on innovation, teamwork, and integrity while providing strategic support for custom bus configurations and contract management.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Primary Technical Liaison: Serve as the key point of contact between customers, external stakeholders, and internal engineering teams, ensuring smooth communication and alignment between all parties.
  • Bid & Proposal Support: Actively contribute to the bid process by supporting the preparation of proposals, responding to change requests, and conducting configuration audits to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with client requirements.
  • Technical Configuration Management: Lead the definition and communication of technical configuration requirements to customers, ensuring that all design specifications are met and adhered to throughout the pre-bid phase.
  • Risk and Opportunity Evaluation: Conduct in-depth analysis of potential technical risks and opportunities, identifying mitigation strategies or leveraging solutions to address design, production, and project delivery challenges.
  • Bills of Material (BoM) Management: Oversee the development and release of initial Bills of Materials (iBoMs), ensuring proper tracking, version control, and coordination of custom-built buses and coaches.
  • Project Documentation & Task Allocation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, ensuring all technical requirements, design specifications, and changes are tracked. Assign engineering tasks to the appropriate teams and ensure the successful delivery of contract-specific engineering work.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Drive initiatives for continuous process improvements within the engineering team and across departments, leveraging lean manufacturing principles, best practices, and cross-functional collaboration to streamline operations and enhance product quality.
  • Mentorship & Engineering Change Orders (ECOs): Act as a mentor to junior engineers and new team members, providing guidance and expertise. Review engineering change orders (ECOs) for accuracy and completeness prior to release, ensuring technical integrity.
  • Travel: Less than 25% travel based on project needs.
Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field. Strong technical background with a demonstrated inclination toward mechanical or electrical engineering is highly preferred. A combination of relevant education, skills, and experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Proficiency in engineering design, project management, Bills of Materials (BoM), and familiarity with manufacturing environments. Proven ability to work on large-scale, complex engineering projects is a plus.
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with enterprise database software and engineering product lifecycle management systems. Knowledge of CAD software and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools is an asset.
