Senior Sustainment Systems Engineer

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Sustainment Systems Engineer to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO. You will join the MILSATCOM Systems Engineering team to help define the next generation of space communication systems supporting US Space Force (USSF) Military Satellite Communications. You will support Systems Engineering & Integration activities in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment. You will interface and collaborate with SE&I team members, contractors, government civilians and members of the USSF.

As a Senior Sustainment Systems Engineer with MTSI, you will support the MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort which provides leading edge Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) for the Space Force's Space Systems Center (SSC). We support the Space Force's acquisition of state-of-the-art Military Satellite Communications systems, providing global secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation's warfighters. We seek technical individuals who will thrive in a highly collaborative work environment of small teams, using the most modern tools and methodologies to tackle the challenges of integrating complex space and ground communications systems.

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

• Provides the government customer with MILSATCOM systems engineering advisory assistance, including daily engineering consultation in support of sustainment activities.
• Engages the Joint space warfighting community, supporting sustainment tasks through established space systems engineering processes and procedures for requirements development, technical solution generation (hardware and software) and fielding to space warfighters.
• Evaluates and produces products of a technical nature using technical rigor, adequacy, completeness, and appropriate application of the specialty engineering disciplines as standard process.
• Assists with technology readiness assessments; identify risks and issues with proposed technologies while collaborating with other teams (i.e., Test & Evaluation, Integrated Logistics Support, etc).
• Supports waiver, deviation and deficiency reviews, system allocations, and compliance assessments.
• Conducts system/enterprise level engineering analysis to identify sustainment problem areas; provide impact analysis, forecast potential failures, and present options with potential to mitigate these problems.
• Performs engineering analysis on organizational technical processes; suggests process improvements that increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of operations as required.
• Supports formulation of relevant information of sustainment objectives and performs engineering analysis and system-level assessments for decision support at various meetings and sustainment forums.
• Perform studies and analyses of military air, surface, maritime, space and cyberspace missions to assess integration, system-of-systems factors, system vulnerability and survivability, system commonality, new technologies, enhancements, commercialization, cost effectiveness, and mission assurance.
• Travel: Less than 10%

• 5+ years of experience working with military or DoD civilian clients and managing professional relationships.
• 4+ years of experience working in a highly competitive multi-contractor environment.
• 5+ years of experience in architecture/requirements definition/analysis, acquisitions, engineering/design, fielding/integration, and verification or analysis.
• 4+ years of relevant systems engineering experience.
• 4+ years of relevant systems integration experience.
• 4+ years of relevant experience engaging government customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management.
• Must be able to demonstrate engineering principles and concepts.
• Expertise with requirements development and analysis, and the development of systems engineering-related documents including requirements/specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify issues and risks.
• Effective interpersonal and team player skills in order to engage at both the peer and management levels.
• Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from DoD agencies to commercial industry.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Clear and concise written, verbal communications and presentation skills; able to clearly articulate ideas, recommendations and options to the customer.
• Highly-organized individual, capable of handling multiple competing priorities; able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications Desired:

• 6+ years of experience in a DoD program office with understanding of DoD acquisition processes and compliance with government instructions; especially prior military/civilian experience working with space systems.
• 6+ years of experience working with strategic & tactical MILSATCOM space systems (spacecraft, uplinks/downlinks, command & control, networks and/or user communities).
• Knowledge of Digital Engineering (DE) or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) applications (i.e., SparxEA, Cameo, etc).
• Current International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) certification (i.e. ASEP, CSEP).
• Knowledge of Agile software development processes and applications (i.e., Jira/Confluence).

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or equivalent technical discipline.

Clearance Requirements:

• Active DoD Secret security clearance is required for this position.
• U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $100,000/year to $120,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract wages, job- related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors.
