Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant OBGYN/IVF.

Responsible for providing a broad range of administrative and support tasks requiring understanding of embryology. Responsible for providing data to stakeholders related to specimen processing/testing and other clinical lab activities. Uses established protocols to upload and information into patient records related to all labs at the fertility center. Works to support embryology lab team, management, patients, cryo-inventory team, lab operations, supply and communication tasks; works under general supervision of lab management. Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Demonstrated ability to function as a team player.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Documents all aspects of laboratory procedure in the appropriate written and computerized transcription formats. This includes entering of patient data in EMR and databases, recording of data for laboratory equipment monitoring, media and supply testing
  • Preparation of Culture dishes, aliquot media
  • Responding to lab related questions from Physicians, Clinical staff and patients. Act as liaison between lab staff and clinical staff and lab staff and patient
  • Checking Lab emails, voice messages, / patient portal with appropriate follow up action- answer calls, notations on patient sheets, Embryology Daily schedule, replies to queries.
  • Preparation of records and accurate documentation for cryopreservation procedures and storage of frozen tissue (eggs, embryo and sperm).
    • Uploading of lab reports and records to EMR records
    • Preparing copies, forms, scanning of records and filing charts
  • Preparation and recording of details for Genetics lab/ PGT specimens followed by packaging and shipping of specimens to the appropriate reference lab.
  • Communication with PGT specimen shipping courier and PGT lab receiving specimens or other reference lab.
  • Scheduling of Lab procedures including but not limited to Egg retrievals, Frozen Embryo transfers based on a knowledge and understanding of priority and timing of time sensitive procedures.
  • Review of Consents and treatment plans and ensuring all consents and details are completed per lab Requisitions
    • Review data entry at end of cycle for completeness and accuracy
  • Ability to accurately enter data into and retrieve data from a predetermined database and medical record. Requires familiarity with EMR, PC based programs i.e. Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Performs ancillary procedures required to control for and improve the quality of services provided by the laboratory (include the preparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials, media and supply testing, equipment monitoring)
  • Perform Quality Control checks in lab and record and notify outliers
  • Assisting with ordering and inventory of lab supplies
  • Assisting with Bagging and boxing of medical waste - follow NYU training
  • Greeting patients, Providing patients with collection / transport instructions, receiving / sending frozen specimens
  • Accession incoming specimens and log out specimens being sent out to reference lab (can be added to #8)
  • Cleaning / sterilizing lab equipment
  • Spotting / double checking specimen IDs
  • Perform other miscellaneous job duties as determined by laboratory leadership.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power point and Access. Ability to develop basic formulae for spreadsheets; set up routine computer procedures; Ability to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software. Ability to proofread documents and write clear, concise 1st draft. Knowledge of standard office practices. Ability to multi-task while paying attention to details. Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School or equivalent. Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients physicians nursing staff and co workers. Empathy and confidence speaking with patients is a must. Demonstrated ability to function as a team player. Time management skills and high level of organization required. 3 weekdays plus Saturday and Sunday; 35 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Demonstrated ability to function as a team player. This position can provide a pathway for appropriate candidates to become embryologists (Requires BS).
Associate degree or Bachelor's Degree in a related field with 2 to 3 Years of related experience in an lab with admin responsibilities

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $33,141.95 - $54,203.63 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
