Description

The Corrosion Technician at New Flyer plays a vital role in ensuring the durability and longevity of our buses by preventing and managing corrosion-related issues. This position involves conducting inspections, performing tests, and applying treatments to protect bus components from corrosion.

As a Corrosion Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of our products, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to implement effective corrosion control measures, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform routine inspections and assessments of bus components for signs of corrosion.
  • Conduct tests to determine the corrosion resistance of materials and coatings.
  • Apply protective coatings and treatments to prevent corrosion.
  • Document findings and suggest improvements based on inspection results.
  • Work closely with production teams to educate them on corrosion-related best practices.
  • Participate in R&D efforts to develop new corrosion prevention technologies.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Hours: Monday through Thursday 4:00pm to 2:30am

Requirements
  • Surface Preparation: Follow blueprints and process sheets to properly prepare bus frames for blasting and coating applications.
  • Abrasive Blasting & Cleaning: Remove contaminants, rust, and old coatings using sandblasting techniques and high-pressure air lines to create a clean, uniform surface.
  • Coating Application Support: Work closely with the painting and finishing team to ensure surfaces are prepped correctly for optimal adhesion and coating performance.
  • Equipment & Maintenance: Operate and maintain blasting equipment, ensuring safe and efficient functionality while monitoring wear on abrasive materials.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict workplace safety procedures, especially when working at heights, in confined spaces, and with high-pressure equipment.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Strong understanding of surface preparation and abrasive blasting techniques-experience in industrial blasting, painting, or surface treatment is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, and technical instructions to ensure precision and quality.
  • Attention to detail when assessing pre-blasted surfaces for defects and readiness for the next phase.
  • Physical stamina and safety awareness-comfortable working in a physically demanding environment and following all PPE, ventilation, and equipment safety protocols.
  • Effective teamwork and independent work ability-collaborate in a team-oriented environment while taking initiative to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
