The Chemotherapy Admixture Technician is responsible for assisting in the provision of chemotherapy services for the oncology infusion center.

Job Relationships



  • Reports to the Director of Clinical Pharmacy



Principal Responsibilities



  • Compound chemotherapy medications using proper aseptic technique.
  • Maintain cleanliness of compounding areas, hoods, and related equipment.
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials.
  • Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate drug measurements for compounding of ordered medications.
  • Enter and remove medications into and from the Lynx system.
  • Conduct routine medication inventories, and assist with inventory control of medications.
  • Assist in ordering supplies and medications. Receive and restock medications.
  • Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) cleaning logs, temperature logs, waste logs, expired & destroyed medication logs, and others.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.



Education/Experience



  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of IV chemotherapy compounding experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience working with multiple stakeholders in a problem-solving environment.



Licenses/Certificates



  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required. May work under 1:1 direct supervision during training for a maximum of 60 days while obtaining board certification.
  • Pharmacy Technician License with the State of Illinois.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to efficiently operate a standard office equipment including a personal computer, computer software (ie, Microsoft Word, Excel), telephone, fax machine, and any other operating system utilized for this position.
  • Skilled in entering prescriptions into Liberty system is preferred.
  • Skilled in entering medications into Lynx system.
  • Skilled in chemotherapy preparation using aseptic technique.
  • Basic knowledge of chemotherapy medications and their usages.



Working Environment



  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
