The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Video and Podcast Producer I will be responsible for producing highly engaging video productions with excellent storytelling, including digital shorts and promotional videos, podcasts, educational and training videos, and feature length documentaries. The Video & Podcast Producer I will utilize their professional skillset to produce and deliver content using a variety of formats while following industry best practices. This role will work collaboratively with the studio production teams, studio clients and partners, presenters, and technical staff to achieve exceptional results.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Use creativity and artistic vision to tell compelling stories by producing world-class videos, podcasts, and animations. Identify compelling stories for development of videos, live broadcasts, podcasts, and more.

  • Guide videographers, editors, animators, and audio engineers in utilizing professional camera techniques, lighting, video editing, color grading, graphics and titles, audio post-processing, music, effects, and foley.

  • Create and manage vision for the entire video production process, including concepting, directing, shooting, interviewing, location sound capture, photography, editing, color correction, audio post-processing, motion graphics, animation, exporting final deliverables, thumbnails, caption files, links/embed codes, and backing up projects using studio guidelines for organization and meta data tagging.

  • Schedule and facilitate audio recording sessions for narrated voice-overs.

  • Lead productions and work with non-actors on camera in video and photography settings.

  • Follow media production protocols regarding media permissions and waivers.

  • Implement and apply accessibility standards for videos, work with captions and transcripts.

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for process improvement, social media best practices, and platform-specific requirements.

  • Responsible for communicating and effectively collaborating with team members and stakeholders at all levels to ensure a smooth transition from initial concept to final deliverable.

  • Review and filter creative briefs; assess new requests, partnering with internal clients to gather necessary information. Scope video, broadcast, and animation projects and establish key milestones with team members, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Co-develop scripts for videos and voice over recordings alongside clients.

  • Develop creative briefs, scripts breakdowns, project timelines, production schedules, budgets, call sheets, bid requests, and estimates.

  • Create comprehensive runs-of-show for live, as-live, and broadcast productions.

  • Coordinate with various internal and/or external partners to schedule and execute various types of video productions while adhering to project deadlines and budgets.

  • Contact and coordinate with university leaders, employees, students, employees, and other subjects to schedule video interviews and shoots. Coordinate with other university departments on the strategy and implementation for video projects.

  • Manage the communication process within teams between stakeholders, studio, and participants, including status updates on existing projects, identifying project related issues and concerns, setting expectations, and arriving at mutually beneficial solutions.

  • Prioritize numerous and overlapping projects, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and foster and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers clients, team members, and partners.

  • Effectively communicate data in marketing and editorial videos to make complex concepts compelling and understandable.

  • Develop and research best practices for workflow, process improvement and overall team efficiency.

  • Assist other producers and management in utilizing industry best-practices and establishing department production and post-production workflows.

  • Assist other departments as directed, including live-broadcast stage directing, generating live-event runs-of-show, produce podcasts, and more.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesYou'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Proven ability to produce and lead vision for corporate, commercial, documentary, educational, training, product demo, UI, and explainer videos.

  • Strong understanding of the entire video production process, including videography, photography, video editing, color-correction, audio engineering, motion graphics, animation, compositing, visual effects, and exporting final deliverables.

  • Strong understanding of principles of storytelling, visual and interactive design, including composition, typography, layout, color, motion, and audio.

  • Ability to guide the transformation of raw video footage, audio assets, still images, and graphics into compelling stories through creative editing, color-grading, motion graphics, animation, and sound design/mixing.

  • Highly knowledgeable in all technical facets of video production: advanced video and audio editing, RAW/LOG footage manipulation, resolution, frame rates, pixel aspect ratios, encoders, bitrate, delivery formats, camera audio/sync, color space, LUTs, advanced color-correction, creative grading, motion tracking, compositing, and round-trip best practices between software.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, and Davinci Resolve. Experience with Avid Pro Tools is also helpful.

  • Working knowledge of motion-graphic implementation ranging from lower thirds and descriptive titling to complex illustration, animation, character rigging, and more.

  • Understanding of visual effects techniques, compositing, motion tracking, matting, rotoscoping, chromakey, blue and green screen removal. Understanding digital environment projection and photogrammetry is a plus.

  • Proficient in run-of-show software such as Rundown Creator or comparable.

  • Proficient with live playback software such as QLab or comparable.

  • Proficient with film and video management software such as Gorilla Studio Suite, Movie Magic, Studio Binder or comparable.

  • Proficient in remote workflow applications such as Frame.io, Proofhq, Airtable, Slack, Zoom, etc.

  • Proficient in project-management software such as Asana, Jira, Basecamp, ClickUp, or comparable.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge exporting to a variety of distribution platforms with the appropriate video format, audio format mapping, and closed captions.

  • Understanding and ability to implement best practices related to digital asset management.

  • Ability to continually learn and adapt in a constantly evolving media environment.

  • High-level problem solving, high attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong leadership skills; acts as a trusted advisor to team members, peers and business partners.

  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Critical thinking and strategic prioritization skills are mandatory.

  • Strong time management and organization skills with experience balancing a high volume of projects at a time.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in film/TV Production, Communications, Multimedia, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience with an agency, in-house team, or post-production studio. Experience must be in producing, directing, videography, editing, graphic design, motion graphics or similar, with a demonstrated focus on videography, editing, motion graphics, and visual effects.

  • Previous experience producing and managing video, live production, and photoshoots.

  • Must have an up-to-date portfolio.

Experience in lieu of education:

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
