Interactive eLearning Architect
American Public University System

This role creates engaging andragogically sound courses for asynchronous online learning models. The incumbent collaborates with faculty, designers, media specialists, and other experts to develop and enhance online courses and programs.

Responsibilities:



  • Designs and develops engaging, learner-centered online courses, modules, and materials in multiple modalities including asynchronous learning methodologies, e-learning modules, videos, digital learning labs, and other resource materials
  • Uses online learning principles and adult learning andragogy
  • Practices iterative Agile approaches to instructional design
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning materials
  • Prepares scripts, wireframes, and storyboards as needed to articulate learning design to the SMEs, program directors, and deans
  • Works with media developers to design and produce digital learning content
  • Reviews the content with the SME and program directors
  • Makes any necessary changes to the material and the learning content
  • Ensures that the course objectives, institutional objectives and industry objectives are mapped to the content, assignments and assessments
  • Produces the final course in the LMS and other authoring tools
  • Reviews the course in the LMS to ensure the student experience meets the original goals and objectives for online learning and andragogy
  • Assures that all courses adhere to the APUS Academic Quality Framework
  • Provides input on module, course, and program frameworks, templates, and models in collaboration with academic leadership
  • Participates in activities supporting Academics and University goals
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Requirements:



  • Ability to produce results in a team environment by collaborating, building relationships, and by being adaptable and flexible to change
  • Ability to envision the learning experience needed for the content and the student
  • Ability to think creatively and use knowledge of online learning, andragogy, and accessibility standards to deliver an engaging experience to diverse students
  • Ability to establish working relationships with SMEs, program directors, deans, multimedia developers, and other classroom support personnel
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively, and take on additional responsibilities quickly
  • Able to effectively communicate at all levels and articulate ideas to other team members both orally and in writing
  • Able to work independently and in a virtual team environment
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of the latest technology to develop online courses


Education:



  • Master's degree in a related field, preferably in education, instructional design, eLearning development; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience building online and instructor led courses using various technology
  • Preferred 1+ years of experience working in higher education
  • Experience building asynchronous online courses
  • Experience working with D2L Brightspace preferred
  • Experience creating simulations or authentic assessment preferred
