Position Highlights

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) is seeking a Research Technician II to support the Firefighter Cancer Cohort Study (FFCCS). This position will be responsible for processing and storing biological samples collected through the study, ensuring accurate documentation of all collected, stored, and analyzed samples, and performing other lab-related duties as needed.

The successful candidate will work closely with a team of researchers with varying perspectives and experiences and maintain regular communication with investigators and administrative staff. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Document all sample aliquots going into the biorepository along with when removed for being sent testing.
  • Assist with the generation of sample manifests for outside laboratory testing.
  • Document biological samples received by the laboratory.
  • Process and appropriately store biological samples including blood and urine.
  • Assist in the collection of biological samples from research study participants, such as blood and urine.
  • On occasion, attend events outside of Tucson and outside the state of Arizona for enrollment and follow-up events.
  • Pack supplies required for field collection events.
  • Assist with data entry.
  • Review inventory of research supplies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with firefighters or in firefighter research is an asset
  • Experience with basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting large and small volumes.
  • Experience working with BSL 2 matrices.
