Job Description:
Our client, a leading AI-powered digital marketplace in the life sciences industry, is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is critical in managing high-volume AP/AR processes, ensuring a timely and accurate close, and collaborating with leadership on key business initiatives. With the upcoming retirement of the current Assistant Controller, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional looking to step into a leadership role in a growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee monthly close processes, including accruals, adjustments, reserves, and G/L review.

  • Manage tax compliance, including sales and use tax, VAT returns, and corporate income tax.

  • Implement and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and streamline workflows.

  • Supervise AP/AR processes with 4K+ invoices per month, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Lead and mentor a team of 2 direct reports (billing and AR/AP) and oversee an offshore team of 7-8 professionals.

  • Partner with senior leadership, including the Chief Commercial Officer and other department heads, to resolve accounting challenges and improve processes.

  • Assist with technical accounting matters, staying current with GAAP and implementing new accounting standards as needed.

  • Support ERP system updates and contribute to scaling the accounting function as the company grows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and internal controls.

  • Experience managing high-volume AP/AR processes (4K+ invoices/month).

  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems preferred.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage both onsite and remote teams.

  • Ability to make decisions independently, provide clear direction, and effectively resolve conflicts.

  • Industry experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, preferably tech or life sciences.
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue recognition concepts.

  • VAT, sales, and use tax experience.
