The Sr Principal Architect is a key leadership role, responsible for developing new and creative innovative approaches for the company's Enterprise Imaging platform.

Enterprise Imaging platform is a software-based image management solution to be used by radiologists, cardiologists and other medical personnel. It has a robust set of image acquisition, storage, management of imaging and clinical information, visualization, workflow, collaboration, and diagnostic tools.

This person will be a thought-leader, with real-world business common sense, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions to understand problems, design solutions, and solve technical issues.

They will provide hands-on architecture leadership, guidance and mentoring to our distributed engineering teams, be a close collaborator and trusted advisor to engineering leadership, and ensure the delivery of high-quality resilient, secure, and scalable systems and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Guide the architecture, design, implementation and testing of cloud-based and on-premise software systems for medical images
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure customer and market problems are well understood and properly addressed in solution architecture and design, and that appropriate Non-Functional Requirements (e.g. cost-effective, performant, sustainable, and durable) are defined at the product and solution level
  • Define and enforce development best-practices, standards, policies, and principles used by software development teams
  • Ensure each solution component has a well-defined architecture and technology roadmap, manages tech debt, and performs proper threat modeling and risk analysis
  • Anticipate future needs and oversee the evaluation and identification of new technologies for implementation
  • Evangelize the overall vision to ensure it is well-understood

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent professional work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in hands-on development, application design and delivery of full-stack software products
  • 6+ years in an architect role in previous large-scale software development projects, preferably SaaS delivery model
  • 5+ years of experience architecting/deploying large scale Medical Imaging solutions
  • 5+ years of experience in applications and infrastructure in Cloud Compute workloads in either GCP, AWS, or Azure
  • Experience with developing and delivering commercial enterprise software



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with modern Agile/DevOps development processes, including continuous integration and deployment, tracking of project metrics, unifying development and operations, zero-downtime updates, etc.
  • Experience developing and delivering REST API(s) to be consumed by partners and customers
  • Experience with cloud storage, such as Azure Storage, S3, EBS, or equivalent
  • Experience with databases and data stores (including performance tuning), such as SQL Server, MySQL, Aurora, Spanner, or Redis
  • Experience with data analytics tools, such as Splunk or ELK

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
