The Vice President of Development and Principal Gifts serves as the senior leader responsible for building and leading a high-performing major and principal gifts program for Rogers Behavioral Health Foundation. Reporting directly to the Foundation President, the VP partners closely with her to drive fundraising results and expand the Foundation's reach and impact. This role manages a portfolio of 50-75 major donors and prospects and leads strategy, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for gifts of significant size-both outright and planned.

The ideal candidate is a proven fundraising leader with deep experience in securing six- to seven-figure gifts, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a strategic mindset. This is a highly collaborative role working across the Foundation, health system leadership, and clinical teams to align philanthropic support with mission-driven initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundraising Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the design and execution of fundraising strategies focused on major and principal gifts, aligned with Foundation and system priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation President to set annual and multi-year fundraising goals ($1M-$2.5M+).
  • Identify and pursue high-value opportunities including individual major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and select grants.
  • Serve as a key thought partner to the President in shaping long-term philanthropic growth and positioning.

2. Donor Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship

  • Personally manage and grow a portfolio of 50-75 major and principal gift donors and prospects.
  • Develop customized engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that result in significant philanthropic investment.
  • Ensure all donor interactions reflect the highest standards of professionalism, care, and mission alignment.
  • Partner with Foundation staff to strengthen the donor pipeline and elevate mid-level donors toward major gift capacity.

3. Organizational Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with system leadership, clinicians, and Foundation staff to identify priority funding needs and translate them into compelling donor opportunities.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador and external representative of the Foundation.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to team members and help build internal fundraising capabilities.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to create compelling donor-facing materials and campaigns.

4. Reporting, Metrics & Data Management

  • Utilize donor data to guide strategy, monitor progress, and report on key performance indicators.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions, proposals, and gift outcomes.
  • Prepare and present regular updates on progress to Foundation leadership and key stakeholders.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in nonprofit management, business administration, liberal arts, or related field required. Master's degree in related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of all fundraising methodologies, particularly major gifts, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Proven track record and strong understanding of fundraising strategies, donor relations, and grant management.

  • Experience with grant knowledge from government agencies, foundations, and corporate entities preferred.

  • Experience with donor management software and CRM systems.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to travel nationally.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced detail-oriented environment while adhering to deadlines.

  • Valid driver license. Must be granted insurable status by the Rogers Memorial Hospital insurance policy.
