Audiologist II

The Audiologist II will assess, identify, treat, or refer patients with or at risk for hearing loss, balance disorders, and other auditory problems. This position provides patient and family education as well as identifies follow-up resources and/or treatment by communicating with the referring provider and care team. This position may require mentoring/guidance in complex situations and may have difficulty with cross coverage to other settings.

Evaluates and treats all diagnoses and more complex patients.

Conducts thorough evaluations of patients' medical history and functional limitations to develop individualized treatment plans.

Provides diagnostic audiologic services to pediatric and adult clients, determining a plan of care to identify and treat hearing and auditory processing disorders.

Determines and documents the type, degree, symmetry, stability and configuration of hearing loss in children and adults.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with health system standards and regulatory guidelines.

Monitors and documents patients' progress, treatment outcomes, and responses to interventions so that treatment plans can be adjusted as needed.

Provides diagnostic audiologic services to pediatric and adult clients, determining a plan of care to help to prevent and treat hearing and auditory processing disorders.

Uses appropriate technologies and techniques to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to inpatients and outpatients suspected of, at risk for, or with known hearing handicaps.

Depending on location /scope may include:
1) Determines candidacy for hearing aids, bone anchored hearing aids, or cochlear implants
2) Diligently evaluates hearing devices, performs repairs, and maintenance on devices.
3) Determine an appropriate treatment plan, including the fitting and dispensing of hearing instruments and assistive
listening devices.
4) Completes Real Ear Measurements during hearing aid programming to determine if hearing aids are working properly
and meeting prescriptive targets.
5) Performs Dix Hall Pike and appropriate treatment based on test results.
6) Perform newborn hearing screenings using Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology
7) Conduct Natural Sleep Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) evaluations
8) Conduct Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) assessments.
9) Perform Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Conditioned Play Audiometry, and Conventional Audiometry techniques
10) Demonstrate competence in evaluating children with autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delays, and
other complex pediatric populations.
11) Conduct bedside audiology evaluations for inpatients as needed.

Provides effective and thorough patient/family/caregiver education.

Collaborates effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, therapist, nurses and other allied health professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.

Collaborates on teams from different departments to ensure coordinated patient care and holistic treatment outcomes.

The Audiologist II implements best practices recommend by the American Academy of Audiology and/or the American Speech and Language Association.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) A Masters in Audiology will be accepted if earned and licensed prior to December 2007.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 2 years
Preferred: 3 years in venue of care

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

Required:
Licensure from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologists; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
