Job Summary

Loudoun County, Virginia is looking for a skilled and motivated entry-level Planner to join the Permits Issuance Division of DBD. The Zoning Permits Planner position provides an opportunity to contribute to the success of DBD by ensuring that zoning permits are issued in accordance with the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance and services are delivered effectively to the Loudoun County community.

The Zoning Permits Planner I is an entry level position as a Planner I and has no supervisory responsibilities.

What You'll Do:

* Provide Expert Guidance to Applicants: Respond to online requests for information and walk-in inquiries from the public on matters concerning land use regulations. You'll become a subject matter expert on the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance and provide applicants with information necessary to achieve zoning approval for their residential or commercial project.
* Zoning Permit Referrals: Utilizing the county's permitting system, review residential and commercial zoning permit applications for compliance with the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance and prior administrative and legislative land development application approvals; manage referral comments from partner referrals agents; and provide technical assistance to residents, developers, and business owners, related to the application and permitting process. You'll use your subject matter expertise to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Collaborate and Solve Problems: Work with inter-departmental and organizational partners, developers, contractors and the public to assist in navigating through multiple overlapping processes, identify potential issues that may arise, and assist with ensuring timelines are met and issues are adequately addressed. You'll become a trusted partner within local government and the development community.

This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus for new hires in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Zoning, Historic Preservation, Business or Public Administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic GIS experience is desirable.

In addition, the preferred candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills. One year of work experience at a local government, or comparable work experience is highly desirable.
