OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Directs and supervises the Respiratory Care and/or Pulmonary Diagnostic lab activities on assigned shift. May perform the duties of a Respiratory Therapist and work with neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assigns and monitors work; manages resources in an ongoing manner to optimize human resource consumption to include efficient use of additional staff, overtime and resource personnel.
  2. Participates in departmental budget management by continually monitoring and adjusting staffing to meet workload requirements; generates and analyzes productivity workload reports to justify staffing adjustments; and assists with assessing needs for hiring of additional staff with the RT Manager.
  3. Assists the RT Manager with Interviewing, hiring, and training staff. Will act as a clinical resource and assist staff in setting and achieving professional goals.
  4. Participates in staff education, competency assessment, and performance evaluations.
  5. Counsels and disciplines staff as needed; Collaborates with RT Manager to create performance plans when necessary, monitors progress of staff for accountability of success factor metrics, and reports all staff situations or events to RT Manager timely for collaborative team management. May issue disciplines to the point of termination if necessary in collaboration with RT Manager and employee relations.
  6. Works with the RT Coordinator and/or when no RT Coordinator is present the RT Manager with daily and on-going scheduling of staff. Will report all call-outs/absences, short shifts/flexing of staff, and coaching to RT Manager via shift reporting tool for closed loop communications.
  7. Handles customer service complaints within area; may resolve issues with minimal assistance.
  8. Maintains a positive rapport with physicians and other hospital employees; contacts physician when test results or patient's condition warrants a change.
  9. Ensures proper availability and working condition of life support equipment and blood gas analyzers. Supervisor will conduct rounds each shift to monitor equipment areas and difficult airway carts for readiness. May maintains records for quality assurance when applicable.
  10. Coordinates disaster response for assigned clinical areas.
  11. May participate in CQI; may represent the Respiratory Care department on hospital committees.
  12. Actively participates in Service Excellence. Supervisor will train and guides staff in accordance with Northside Service Excellence initiatives.
  13. Ensures departmental staff records are in accordance with JCAHO standards.
  14. May performs fiberoptic bronchoscopies and assist in staff training of proper technique.
  15. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Manager.
  16. Monitors all new hires and ensures the 30/60/90 day initial evaluations are progressing to expectation and their progress is reported to the Clinical Educator and Coordinator at these intervals. At the 90 day evaluation the Initial Competency should be signed and completed by preceptor and supervisor and final evaluation completed. If there are issues with the employee during orientation 30/60/90 the Supervisor will reach out to the RT manager for guidance and management.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  2. Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy or other health related field preferred.
  3. Two years of experience as Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  4. Must be BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certified.
  5. Licensed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners.
  6. Adult Supervisors must be able to perform bedside bronchoscopies.
  7. Adult RT Supervisor - obtain NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) ACCS or NPS from NBRC within 1st year as new supervisor.
