POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Manufacturing has direct oversight for manufacturing operations including team leaders, technicians, operators, coordinators, and other roles as defined who are responsible for manufacturing the portfolio of products.

This role is accountable for operations and performance and is challenged to continuously improve in the areas of colleague engagement, EHS, quality, supply and cost. The role will also closely interact with support enablers in supply chain, maintenance, quality, technical services, procurement and logistics to assure the end-to-end success of manufacturing and on-time delivery of customer requirements.

(Near-term) Responsibilities in a Startup Environment: In a startup environment, the Senior Manager, Manufacturing will adapt quickly to changes and provide directions to Team Leads in manufacturing and warehouse areas. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, managing resources efficiently, and troubleshooting unexpected challenges. The Senior Manager will also participate in diverse tasks to support the dynamic needs of the startup and ensure the sustainability and scalability of all procedures as the company grows. The successful candidate will need to be flexible to perform activities within a startup environment which might fall outside the standard manufacturing manager requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct leadership for all site Manufacturing operations, achieving objectives for colleague engagement, EHS, quality, supply and cost.
  • Build strong partnerships with enabling functions including supply chain, maintenance, quality, technical services, procurement and logistics.
  • Provide oversight for end-to-end enabling functions of the Manufacturing to focus on optimization and lead time reduction.
  • Mentor, develop and coach team members and build a high performing culture.
  • Role-model Lean leader behaviors and vigorously support implementation of tactical Lean improvements, with the ultimate goal of allowing Lean culture to flourish.
  • Accountable to develop and achieve budget and operational standards for all operational aspects of manufacturing.
    • Annual goal for cost improvements
    • Metrics to ensure process is delivering budgeted results
    • On-time and in-full delivery of customer order requirements
  • Create strategic plans to:
    • Achieve colleague engagement, EHS, quality, supply, and cost goals
    • Improve OEE to achieve specific goals
    • Support full manufacturing lead time reduction
    • Prioritize projects to support operational improvements
    • Sponsor and facilitate expansion projects to support rapidly growing products and markets
  • Drive Lean Culture
    • Facilitate and enable Daily Direction Setting and tiered communication/escalation
    • Lead and coach Kaizen events
    • Improve on standard work for all operations positions
    • Develop Lean champions
    • Perform process confirmations
  • The preferred candidate will have a strong background in Lean and Six Sigma principles with a passion to drive efficiency and improve lead time within manufacturing. Additionally, the leader will develop and coach team members to build a high performing culture and to deliver all business objectives by following a servant leader model.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated strengths in the following capabilities: leadership, operational management, data and financial analysis, supply chain, decision-making, critical-thinking and technical skills pertaining to pharmaceutical operations, negotiating, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills coupled with the ability to educate and influence key stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop and coach team members to build a high performing culture and to deliver all business objectives by following a servant leader model.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with various levels of the Zoetis organization.
  • Demonstrated record of leading complex projects, teams and initiatives with full achievement of business results.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving business results in a manner consistent with Zoetis Core Beliefs and Mission Elements.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation, focus on performance, change management, leader development with continuous improvement and development/implementation of best practices.
  • Proven history of effective performance management, coaching, mentoring and a commitment to mutual accountability, with track record of talent development and succession planning.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and ability to learn Zoetis systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, or management with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management of complex manufacturing organizations and proven skills is preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations, scientific, technical, business, lean and leadership principles.
  • Strong leadership, analysis, judgment, and communication skills commensurate with position responsibilities, and levels of Zoetis and agency interaction.
  • Demonstrated risk-based decision-making experience.
  • Must be a team player prepared to lead, work in, and embrace a team-based culture.
  • Experience in lean six sigma, manufacturing mapping, and visual management; Green or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Track record of continuous improvement and development, implementation and sharing of Best Practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is regularly exposed to both office settings and a manufacturing environment, including moving mechanical parts. The work conditions for this position are 50% stationary and 50% standing and walking throughout the workday. The colleague may be required to travel. The colleague will be required to utilize certain Personal Protective Equipment, Including but not limited to, hard hats, safety ("steel-toed") shoes, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing.
