TRIO Programs:

The Upward Bound Project EDGE (Exploration and Determination Guarantees Excellence) program is designed to provide opportunities for fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete high school education and graduate from institutions of post-secondary (college and technical) education. Our goal is to recruit participants into the Upward Bound program, retain them, graduate them, and get them ready for post-secondary education admittance and graduation.

The Opportunity:

The Summer Housing Assistant will reside on-campus overnight to supervise Project EDGE high school students during the Upward Bound residential week at UCF main campus.

This is a unique job opportunity for people who enjoy working with high school students and have group leadership skills. This position will work up to 40 hours per week at $20 per hour. The residential program will be held from Sunday, July 6, 2025, through Thursday, July 10, 2025, at UCF. This position will work a split shift between designated evening and morning hours.

Responsibilities:


  • Reside at UCF campus overnight (1-week stay) to supervise Project EDGE students during the Upward Bound summer residential week.
  • Assist in monitoring students' arrival on Sunday and departure on Thursday.
  • Facilitate positive and supportive relationships with Project EDGE students.
  • Make sure students are ready for breakfast; escort students for breakfast and dinner meal breaks and maintain proper staff to student supervision ration throughout summer residential week.
  • Organize and lead student discussion sessions and other social activities during the evening to promote student wellness and team building.
  • Address discipline issues in collaboration with the Lead Summer Housing Assistant (LSHA), Manager, and Coordinator.
  • Implement and enforce residence hall and college policies and safety procedures; maintain ethical standards of conduct in accordance with UCF Youth Protection Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Current college student.
  • Previous experience as a Residential Assistant.
  • Experience working with a wide range of high school students in an academic and/or community setting.
  • Enthusiastic and driven by student achievement.
  • Commitment to working in a collaborative environment.
  • Dedicated to student welfare.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification upon hire or provide proof of current/unexpired CPR/First Aid certification.

Finalist will undergo a Level 1 and 2 background check per UCF requirements for working with minor youth.

The schedule for this position is as follows:

Sunday 2:00 pm-10:30 pm.

Monday-Wednesday 7:00 am-9:00 am & 4:30 pm-10:30 pm .

Thursday 7:00 am-2:00 pm.

Overnights shifts included.
