DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role is a specialized technical position within the William Penn State Forest District, encompassing a diverse range of responsibilities. The individual in this position will oversee various programs related to the management of forest resources, including timber sales, fire prevention initiatives, insect and disease management, the development of forest tree nurseries, and the execution of recreational projects, along with any additional tasks as assigned. The work entails conducting thorough surveys to accurately assess and document the characteristics of forest resources, compiling and analyzing field data, and applying established forest management practices. Instructions for assignments are provided by a forestry professional, and the employee is expected to interpret maps, drawings, and plans to effectively carry out their duties. Upon completion of tasks, the work is subject to review to ensure it meets quality standards and adheres to agency guidelines. The overarching objective of this position is to support forestry professionals across the district, improve the health and sustainability of forest resources on State Forest Land, and promote the development of recreational initiatives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2026.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
