Temporary Assistant to the Director-Institute of Electronic Arts

The IEA Assistant supports the Director in managing and promoting the artist-in-residence (AIR) program and daily operations. As the primary point of contact for AIRs on campus, the Assistant ensures smooth coordination and communication. Key responsibilities include transporting AIRs to and from Rochester/Buffalo when needed, working with the extensive IEA archive, and completing special projects as assigned.

Salary/Rate:$16.00-$18.00, 40 hours per week, 12-month temporary position

Requirements:
  • Education:Bachelor's Degree (required)
  • Experience:Preferred background in visual arts, hospitality, administration, or data entry
  • Licenses:Valid driver's license (required)
  • Skills:
    • Strong professional communication skills for interacting with international visiting artists
    • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks based on the Director's guidance
    • Onsite training will be provided as needed
Essential Functions:
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at a college level
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels of the institution
  • Ability to work independently and maintain regular, punctual attendance
  • Comfortable driving a university vehicle to and from Rochester and Buffalo
  • Additional essential functions may be required
Physical Environment:
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn when necessary
  • May require a respiratory function test and use of respirators
  • Must navigate stairs, uneven surfaces, and potential outdoor walking in all weather conditions
  • Campus terrain includes hills and slopes, which may not be fully accessible for individuals with mobility impairments
Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Director to assess the needs of current and incoming AIRs, including special projects
  • Assist in scheduling residencies and artist events
  • Conduct orientations and campus tours for AIRs
  • Serve as a liaison for residents, ensuring professional communication, proper studio use, and alignment with residency expectations
  • Help maintain IEA and Expanded Media equipment
  • Transport AIRs and guests to/from airports or bus stations in Rochester and Buffalo
  • Document IEA projects and special events in print and time-based media
  • Assist the Director with uploading large media files for grant reviews, ensuring proper functionality
  • Participate in weekly IEA staff meetings and, when needed, Expanded Media staff meetings
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure proper handling of materials, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Follow all safety protocols and complete required safety training
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned
Priority application review will begin on June 9, 2025 and remain open until filled. Start date is August 1, 2025.
