Cable Installer -Journeyman

Reports to: Foreman

Benefit Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Education Requirements: Three-year Department of Labor apprentice program certificate, diploma from a technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Three years of related experience. State certification if needed.

Position Summary: Follows direction from the Foreman to complete all aspects of the collection system on wind, solar and energy storage projects to include all the following functions and other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

Adhere to established company and industry safe protocols.

Follow all established company work instructions and test procedures.

Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical equipment at both medium and low voltages using hand tools and power tools.

Test installed cabling systems and if issues are found be able to troubleshoot and repair per company procedures.

Terminate and splice medium voltage (34.5 kV) and low voltage cables (less than 1500 v) both AC and DC.

Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with drawings and standards.

Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices appropriate for the system being worked on, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.

Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.

Assist Foreman in the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and all standards.

Train apprentice workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

Follow construction drawings to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to specifications and standards.

Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.

Perform "paperwork" as required by the company such as quality documentation, inventory of materials and equipment, field test records and redline drawings.

Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.

Work from various elevations using man lifts, ladders or scaffolds to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

Perform physically demanding tasks, such as but not limited to digging trenches, moving and lifting heavy objects and placing concrete.

Provide assistance during outages and equipment failures by providing technical knowledge during troubleshooting and repair.

Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.

Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. .

  • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards and knowledge of OSHA's safe energized working clearances.

  • Possess a basic knowledge of materials used in line work.

  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

  • Construction equipment operation experience preferred.

  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.

  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.

  • Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.

  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.

  • Self-motivated, and team & customer oriented

  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

  • Prefer to have a valid drivers license with clean driving record.
