About the Job

OBJECTIVE/OVERVIEW:
Community-University Health Care Center's (CUHCC) mission is to transform care and education to advance health equity. The Community-Based Research Facilitator will develop and manage CUHCC's community-based research program that aligns with CUHCC and community needs and improves community health outcomes and ensure strategic and clinical research initiatives are successful at CUHCC to align with its mission and strategic priorities.

TYPE OF POSITION:
This is primarily a remote position that requires flexibility to attend occasional in-person meetings, community events and research activities when necessary.

This is a grant funded position, with initial funding expected to cover three years with potential for expansion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administrative and Organizational Support 20%

  • Promote and co-lead CEARCH and CUHCC programs and strategies to increase community engaged research practices, including participation on the CEARCH Management Council and in one CEARCH Management Council Work Group. Attend 4 Quarterly Management Council Meetings per year and 12 (1 per month) Work Group meetings per year.
  • Co-Lead effective community outreach and community driven processes, including administrative responsibilities (i.e., outreach, communications, etc.) related to the partnership between SoLaHmo-CUHCC-CEARCH, the SoLaHmo Executive Committee, and the SoLaHmo-CUHCC Research Steering Committee.
  • Participate in CUHCC's organizational and development activities as appropriate

Research Oriented Programming, Education, and Training 60%

  • Provide leadership that supports CUHCC's and the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute's Community Engagement to Advance Research and Community Health (CEARCH) overall commitment to community- based participatory action research (CBPAR) and SoLaHmo Partnership for Health and Wellness (SoLaHmo) community engagement approach, including multicultural community members, health care providers and academic researchers to work together in egalitarian Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) partnerships.
  • Provide leadership and collaboration on CEARCH research-based programs across UMN staff and faculty (e.g., consultations, education, onsite-events, etc.) and community partners (e.g., consultations, CHAT sessions, community events, etc.).
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the collaborative development and implementation of a formal leadership/professional development strategy for multicultural community researchers, students and staff to successfully work on research projects and navigate community-academic research partnerships, through SoLaHmo member engagement in SoLaHmo-CUHCC-CEARCH collaborative activities.
  • On behalf of SoLaHmo, collaborate with CEARCH to refine/enhance educational materials for implementation on CEnR basics

Community Liaison and Partnership Development 10%

  • Co-Lead the process of brokering effective, egalitarian community-academic CBPAR partnerships for SoLaHmo-CUHCC-CEARCH, to address racial and health disparities for historically marginalized communities in Minnesota. Partnerships must be transparent to CUHCC, the wider University, and abide by University's policies.
  • Provide leadership for building and maintaining SoLaHmo's capacity for recruitment and retention of community/patient researchers.

Research Projects and Opportunities 5%

  • Serve as Community Co-Principal Investigator or Community Co-Investigator on funded SoLaHmo research studies, quality initiatives, and research-oriented education/training initiatives. Lead responsibilities minimally include: providing CBPAR expertise, administrative structure, and organizational support for a variety of SoLaHmo research initiatives.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES 5%
Other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
May provide work direction to independent consultants/temp casuals/students/volunteers.
Reports to the Director of Community-Based Research.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Public Health or other related field including Family Social Science, Mental Health, Education, Nursing, etc. with one or more years of research training, specifically in the area of community-based research/health equity.
  • One or more years of research training.
  • Experience with Community Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) principles and practices.
  • Experience in group facilitation and a team approach for conflict resolution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite or Google Apps; basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint or similar applications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Community Based Participatory Action Research..
  • Proficient in one of CUHCC's/SoLaHmo's dominant languages: Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Karen, Lao, Nepali, Amharic or Oromo.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with funders.
  • Experience with using and maintaining social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with ability to pay attention to detail and ability to complete projects on time, with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating inclusive community engaged decision-making processes that integrate highly collaborative and culturally-resonant practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet departmental work schedules as designated, efficient, well organized, and able to prioritize quickly and confidently.
  • Excellent collaboration, team building and volunteer management skills.
  • Superior verbal, written and interpersonal skills..

CUHCC serves nearly 11,000 patients a year through over 55,000 visits annually. The patient population comes from over 12 different racial and ethnic groups that span five continents. CUHCC's mission is to seek health equity in our community by advancing the well-being of diverse people. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $80,000 - $82,990/annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
