Moog is looking for a Senior Project Lead Engineer (Sr. Project Engineer) for our growing Mechanical Design Engineering department developing flight control and weapons bay actuators for next generation aircraft. We are expanding our staff as we grow our technology, mission areas, and market share. Reporting to an Engineering manager, you will have a 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work option (3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and integration of integrated electro-mechanical and mechanical actuators for military aircraft. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that upholds the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety. You will oversee and manage all aspects of a project including planning, organizing, and coordinating the project, collaborating with stakeholders, demonstrating technical expertise, managing risks and budgets, ensuring quality control, maintaining documentation and reporting, providing team leadership, and seeking opportunities for improvement.

Moog's Military Aircraft Group is a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft. We design and integrate FCAS systems for cutting edge aircraft like the F-35 Lightning II and the V280 Valor next generation tiltrotor Aircraft. As a Sr. Project Engineer, you will:

  • Lead a team of creative and independent individuals to develop, integrate, and verify complex electromechanical and mechanical control actuators.

  • Manage project execution, including planning, organizing tasks, and effectively managing the budget and schedule.

  • Ensure project success by actively tracking and reporting on the team's progress towards schedule and cost goals.

  • Coordinate the work of engineers and technicians who support specific assignments.

  • Guide the evolution of the conceptual design and serve as focal point for customer communications.

  • Lead a team to effectively work through the development process of, creating and communicating requirements, developing verification plans, and authoring test procedures and verification analyses.

  • Manage project execution, including planning, organizing tasks, and effectively managing the budget and schedule.

  • Coordinate qualification of new products through a comprehensive development test program. Work with Program Management to successful execute the development of the product.

  • Communicate fluently to different audiences, both internal and external

  • Prepare and make presentations to customers to support design reviews and technical interface meetings.

  • Support programs with some travel (5%) and participation in presentations to customers.

To be considered for the role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a STEM discipline (Engineering, Math, Science, Technology)

  • 7+ years of professional experience in design/development Engineering (5+ years with Master's Degree; 3+ years with PhD)

  • Active US Government security clearance or the ability to obtain one. This clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

  • Experience leading technical teams

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills

  • Experience managing cost, schedule and scope for technical projects

It'd be great if you also had:

  • Experience in the design, analysis, and development of complex electrohydraulic or electromechanical actuators

  • Experience in EVMS (Earned Value Management System) fundamentals, project planning, scheduling and resource loading; experience with MS Project

  • The engineering degree is in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Experience in the design, analysis and development of complex systems

  • Test experience with electric/hydraulic driven systems

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $130,000.00-$170,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
