Responsibilities

Summary
The Food Service Warehouse Specialist receives, stores, and issues food materials, equipment, and other items from vendors and distributes them for meal preparations. In addition, this position keeps and maintains records and compiles stock reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist receives and counts incoming food items, and records inventory manually or using computer.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist packs and unpacks items to be stocked on shelves in warehouse.
  • Verifies inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigates discrepancies or adjust errors.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist stores items in an orderly and accessible manner in the food warehouse or other areas.
  • Marks stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Receives, compiles, and distributes food item requests.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist determines proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities
  • Keeps records on the use and/or damage of stock or stock handling equipment.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist examines and inspects stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to supervisors.
  • Provides assistance or direction to food service workers.
  • The Food Service Warehouse Specialist performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification required.
  • Warehouse experience desired
  • Ability to talk to others to convey information effectively
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to use simple mathematics to solve problems.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
