Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Health Behavior is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina. Founded in 1943, the Department develops and disseminates knowledge and interventions that promotes the health of individuals and communities. The Department's 26 primary appointed faculty along with several secondary and joint appointment faculty members have backgrounds in behavioral science, health education, international health, social and cognitive psychology, medicine, medical sociology, and communications, and are united by their commitment to the disciplines of public health together with the social and behavioral sciences.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to support the overall teaching and research mission of the Department of Health Behavior by providing support to the Chair, faculty, staff, and students. While priority functions have been identified, it is anticipated that there is a dynamic aspect to the work of this position in light of the support provided to the chair and department faculty. The position is a pivotal support assignment requiring the ability and interpersonal skills necessary to interface and communicate with a very diverse and sophisticated clientele. By the nature of this position and the variety of support services provided the ability to prioritize tasks is essential to successful execution of the position and duties involved.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of Microsoft office, Excel, and Adobe. The person in this position must have exceptional communication skills (oral and written). The person should have excellent problem-solving skills - demonstrate the ability to immediately assess a situation and provide appropriate responses, since it serves as the first department contact and is usually the first person to hear of 'problems'. This person should have strong organizational and operational skills in order to carry out the day-to-day tasks in the position.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with UNC applications: BuyCarolina, ConnectCarolina, Infoporte are preferred. The person in this position should have excellent customer service skills as the individual will serve as the first point of contact. One of the most important qualifications of the position is the understanding of confidentiality due to the hands-on work with various information. Therefore, the person should understand and uphold the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs in order to move supplies, files, and other inventory management activities within the department with or without reasonable accommodation.
