Job Overview

A critical position within Komatsu's Functional Engineering department, the FEA Engineer provides analysis of mechanical components, structures, and mechanical systems on various mining vehicles and subsystems by applying state-of-the-art, computer-based static and dynamic modeling and analysis methods. This position plays a crucial role in the production of reliable Mining Equipment Machines and Parts.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) in the analysis of mechanical components, structures, and mechanical systems on various mining vehicles and subsystems by applying state-of-the-art computer-based static and dynamic modeling and analysis methods.
  • Remain current in knowledge of structural analysis techniques and tools, including both solid modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) software in order to produce timely and accurate results.
  • Participate in the development of new and advanced analytical methods and techniques utilizing state-of-the-art technology
  • Apply both internal and external standards and codes to analyses as applicable.
  • Work with other analytical modeling and simulation teams to help find the most accurate solution
  • Maintain open communications with all internal and external customers and suppliers, providing technical guidance and support
  • Assume project responsibility on analyses by providing planning, technical guidance, and coordination with both inside and outside functions, as required
  • Promote an open culture, allowing for the free exchange of ideas
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports documenting analyses where required
  • Mentor and/or oversee other personnel or contractors
  • Minor travel as appropriate (15% or less)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, EIT path is beneficial
  • 3 plus years of relevant work experience required
  • Background in mechanical engineering fundamentals with demonstrated competency in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, including Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Strain Gage Theory and Application, Fundamentals of Fatigue, and MBD modeling, etc.
  • Strong knowledge and experience preferred with ANSYS FEA software and techniques.
  • Strong background in modeling, design and drawing of mechanical systems and structures.
  • Experience in developing and analyzing machine system level non-linear FEA simulation models
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, VBA, etc.)
  • Experience with AISC Steel Design and AWS Weld Design beneficial
  • Knowledgeable, self-directed, able to complete tasks with minimal guidance
