POSITION CONCEPT

Reporting to the Manager of Brand and Strategic Communications, the Brand and Strategic Communication (BSC) Strategist is responsible for building communication strategies and incorporating them into the organization's broader integrated marketing communications plan. These communications focus on marketing, customer and stakeholder communications. The Strategist also supports the implementation of targeted communication strategies within the integrated marketing communication plan. The goal of this plan is to ensure the business strategy, goals and initiatives of Tampa Electric are accomplished.

This role is part of a team of strategic communication professionals. These professionals have a focus on strategy, marketing, media analysis, corporate communication, crisis communication and issues management. These strategic plans are integrated into employee, customer and stakeholder communication and marketing solutions. The Strategist partners with leaders throughout Tampa Electric to create and execute robust marketing and communication plans and provide sage insight on trends in communication and marketing. The Strategist provides expert analysis on the effectiveness of the marketing, stakeholder, media and customer communications.

Level 1: Brand & Communication Strategist

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing, customer and stakeholder communications and appropriate inclusion to the Integrated Marketing and Communication Plan for Tampa Electric.

    • Partners with Government and Community Relations team to integrate communications within the Integrated Marketing Communication Plan.
    • Partners with Clean Energy and Emerging Technology team to integrate communications within the Integrated Marketing Communications Plan.
    • Partners across Tampa Electric's Digital Customer Experience, Communication and Marketing department to coordinate with planned customer, stakeholder and employee communications.


  • Assists in the development of strategy and plans for proactive and reactive communications related to media, issues management and the corporate social media channels. Ensures that external communications are in line with the Tampa Electric brand and positioning strategies.
  • In coordination with the other team members, develops channel strategies, ensuring KPI's are met and/or exceeded including marketing goals, communication recall and positive sentiment.
  • With the Manager, the Strategist actively promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Responsible to provide seasoned advice on communication solutions, successful approaches utilized by other relevant organizations and accurate estimates on costs and benefits.
  • Develops executive-level speeches and presentations. The Strategist makes recommendations on appropriate tone and key messages that should be included with officer remarks. Responsible for grammatical accuracy. Writes effective and compelling speeches and presentations that convey impactful information and present the officer in a manner consistent with the company's brand and culture.
  • Required to maintain strong collaborative and supportive relationships with the TEC Strategy team, the Economic Development team, Regulatory and Safety teams, always working across the groups, sharing expertise across the disciplines, and working closely to provide the optimum solution for the business and ultimately for customers.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education



  • Required: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field is required.
  • Preferred: An advanced degree in strategic public relations, marketing, communications or journalism would be an asset.


Related Experience



  • Required: Minimum of 6 years' experience in a communications role is required with demonstrated experience developing comprehensive and strategic communication plans including, media relations, digital marketing and communication, brand strategy, advertising, extensive writing and editing experience, and employee communications. Experience in developing crisis communications or critical public relations would be considered a benefit.

Level 2: Senior Brand & Communication Strategist

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Special additional responsibility to act as a company spokesperson may be necessary. During critical events or company crises, may be called upon to act as spokesperson, provide advice to senior leadership on media relations; to include analysis of the journalists, their past trends in reporting and the likely risks associated. Senior Strategist may be expected to travel to company events or crises, at times with minimal warning, to provide on-site media relations/media liaison services.
  • Accountable for leadership on strategic communications for complex or critical company issues; drafting comprehensive communication plans, position papers, talking points, message boxes and FAQs as required and in coordination with subject matter experts.
  • Works to develop and implement public relations strategic plans to support positioning of Tampa Electric brand and broader business initiatives, helps to establish executives as thought leaders, and builds earned media opportunities across Florida and within the electric industry.
  • Maintains a deep knowledge of the local media market and key influencers. Expected to foresee potential challenges related to company initiatives and announcements and take a proactive approach to business support, at times, alerting leadership of impending opportunities or threats even before leadership is aware.
  • Senior level strategist may serve as a back-up for the Tampa Electric company spokesperson as required.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses/Certifications



  • Preferred: Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) certification, the Strategic Communication Management Professional certification (SCMP) or equivalent certification.Experience in excess of 15 years in a strategic communication role could be considered a substitute for certification.


Related Experience



  • Required: Minimum of 8 years' experience in strategic communication roles.
