About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Cultural Resources Technician to support cultural resource management work in the Gulf Coast Region. This region offers a dynamic work environment and a diverse client base, including projects in generation/renewables, transportation, water infrastructure, oil and gas, and land development. In this role, you will assist staff archaeologists and field directors on various projects across the Gulf Coast and Southeastern U.S.

This is an on-call, temporary, lab-based position with no regular hours. Work will be assigned on an as-needed basis, and all work must be conducted in-person at our Baton Rouge, Louisiana office. Candidates must reside in or near Baton Rouge and have reliable transportation to the office.

The selected candidate must be willing to participate in a drug testing and alcohol screening as part of the pre-employment process, as some projects require such screenings.


What you will accomplish

  • Perform laboratory processing of artifacts and other cultural materials.
  • Execute data entry, labeling, sorting, and cataloging of artifacts.
  • Complete laboratory documentation and assist with quality control procedures.
  • Support analysis under the supervision of senior lab or cultural resources staff.
  • Maintain lab organization, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Adhere to the safety program and look out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required Qualifications:

  • An accredited Field School Certification.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to carry materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Current valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the Baton Rouge office when called upon.
  • 6+ months of experience with lab methodologies, including artifact processing, cataloging, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with database management and digital record-keeping systems.

Additional Information:

  • Compensation based on education and experience.
  • This position is not eligible for regular weekly hours and does not guarantee a set number of hours per week.
  • On-call assignments may be of varying durations depending on project needs.

An employee in this Southeast-based position can expect an hourly pay rate of $19.31/hour-$25.49/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
