Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Project Engineer for the Digital Classroom Services. Reporting to the Associate Director of Technical Services and Operations for Digital Classroom Services, the Project Engineer is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the functionality and operations of the technology in the 305 learning spaces on the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses. The successful candidate will possess strong audio-visual/I T technology installation skills, project management responsibilities that include design and overseeing the installation of large-scale classroom technology systems.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Candidates will work closely with Lead Engineers and team members to research applications, software and hardware improvements.
- Manages audio/visual equipment maintenance, scheduled equipment Evergreen and installation projects in the non-general-purpose instructional space that reports to the Office of the Chancellor of New Brunswick.
- Researches and implements pedagogy equipment for classroom improvements.
- Researches and assists in the design and implantation of latest telepresence technologies, lecture capture & active learning environments.
- Works out of office on Livingston campus.
- Maintains equipment inventory tracking and distribution procedures and maintain the integrity and security of Technical Services and Operations' multi-million-dollar technology inventory.
- Works with all units and campus offices to maintain adequate equipment and supply levels. Streamlines and mainstreams operating policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance and training for faculty end users and student Support Specialists as necessary.
- Performs advanced equipment and troubleshooting in DCS classrooms.
- Responds to support tickets generated in the DCS Ticket system.
- Performs repairs and installations on all Rutgers New Brunswick campuses.
- Builds new systems and podium infrastructure for annual Evergreen process.
- Fields repairs and installations as required.
- Develops teaching tools and instruction guidelines and improve process workflows and procedures.
- Interacts with stakeholders to determine plan of action, design A/V solutions, install or oversee installation work, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical expertise and support.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Knowledge of audio-visual technologies, video various software, and computing operating systems.
- Must have experience building equipment racks, understanding signal flow, designing and installing audio/visual solutions.
- Strong project management skills. Working knowledge of video telepresence architecture and platforms (i.e. Zoom, Teams, Webex), Familiar with Biamp audio programing, Dante, Shure audio experience.
- Needs to have working knowledge and familiarity with video production, lecture capture and video conferencing and streaming.
- Experienced with interactive hardware and wireless presentation technology and interactive monitors, Newline Connect and Broadcast wireless software.
- Need to be able to use to understand and read schematics, electrical and low voltage control diagrams.
- Must have good problem solving, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical information to a nontechnical audience.
- Must be well experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must have experience supervising staff.
- Requires a valid NJ driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Two - three years minimum experience.
CTS certification, video and audio production, Biamp certification, Dante Audio, telepresence qualifications, Extron programming; digital video production; Crestron experience.

Equipment Utilized |
- Working experience with Crestron processors and field-testing software, and later models, Cisco Webex, Teams, Zoom and telepresence hardware/software, switches, and PTX cameras (Vaddio and Aver), Biamp DSP, microphone array and audio programs, Dante audio, Shure audio processing software, Extron switchers, digital video camera and editing software programs. Small hand power screw drivers, hand tools, and installation gear.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Job requires moving of equipment, installation of data projectors, and ability to lift 30-40 lbs.
- Ability to drive vehicle, transport and set up ladders, and climb to heights of 10' occasional use of lifts; system repair, installation and wiring of low voltage cabling.
- This position requires the holder to work primarily during standard hours of operation Monday - Friday.
- The position may dictate that schedule hours remain flexible to accommodate rare occasions for off hour and weekend work.
