JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

The Ergonomics Program Manager is responsible for maintaining and managing the Ergonomics and the Safe Patient Handling programs. This position provides in-depth consultation to address ergonomic concerns within a hospital setting and related support services at all Stanford Children's Health locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees and the community.
* Manage and oversee ergonomic contractors and associated projects.
* Develop and manage ergonomic and safe patient handling program budgets
* Provide on call support in a regular cadence with the rest of the EH&S department.
* Develop and implement ergonomics and safe patient handling initiatives and goals.
* Develop and provide Safe Patient Handling training to clinical staff in a manner that is compliant to regulatory standards and satisfies staff Continuous Education Units.
* Partner with Patient Transport and Supply Chain to ensure that safe patient handling equipment is available and functional for staff use.
* Provide subject matter expertise when evaluating new equipment, tools and workstations.
* Support multi-disciplinary/multi-stakeholder projects targeting reduction of musculoskeletal risks and enhancing human performance.
* Conduct preventative and reactive on-site ergonomic assessments in various work settings including but not limited to the hospital patient care and support areas, offices, laboratories, kitchens, operating rooms, shops and clinics. Use a variety of ergonomic tools and methods to assess and quantify risk both pre and post intervention. This position may require some limited travel to other SCH/LPCH clinic locations.
* Facilitate ergonomic training to employees on individual workstations through the management of an online evaluation tool.
* Provide just in time training for safe patient handling to staff. Provide training on all safe patient handling tools and equipment. Assess and recommend appropriate safe patient handling equipment.
* Recommend and implement improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the potential ergonomics and/or safe patient handling hazards.
* Lead, manage and organize safe patient handling and ergonomics related committees including safe patient handling champions.
* Provide guidance on ergonomically appropriate workstations for pre-construction and space planning projects
* Identify, assess, and monitor workplace hazards (that may be present in the work area; recommend improvements to minimize hazard potential.
* Utilize standard ergonomic analysis tools to identify risk, recommendations, and compile detailed reports.
* Compile data and conduct initial investigations for incidents, injuries, and general complaints.
* Perform administrative duties as assigned, including developing resources, compiling metrics, managing consultants, ordering equipment, tracking invoices, maintaining program budget, coordinating delivery and installation of equipment. Maintain a database of detailed data, reports, resources, training, projects and metrics.
* Act as subject matter expert for all ergonomic and safe patient handling regulatory requirements.
* Other duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

* Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
* Experience: Five (5) years of progressive responsibility in safety, ergonomics and/or safe patient handling
* License/Certification: None Required. AEP, CPE, ASP, CSP or similar certification desired.

KNOWLEDGE

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification.

* Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments/evaluations and provide recommendations for risk mitigation or hazard identification.
* Capable of assessing workspaces, equipment, furniture, and other tools with prevention through design.
* Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
* Basic understanding of environmental, health, and safety principles and practices; government environmental, health, and safety requirements and hospital accreditation.
* Demonstrated organizational skills, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple competing priorities.
* Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
* Ability to maintain appropriate current knowledge of and interpret specific government agency requirements (statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits).
* Experience with various ergonomic assessment software highly desired

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $48.50 to $64.31
