Overview

This is a hybrid role with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside our Chicago, IL office.

The Senior Commercial Business Intelligence Analyst is a highly visible role that drives strategic planning and market research efforts for Rail. This role involves developing and analyzing various pieces of information/data to create actionable business intelligence. The role interacts daily with Rail's President and the Commercial/Operational leaders of the business. This position provides strategic oversight and direction for the Rail division by directing complex business analysis work involving collecting, analyzing, and transforming data about trends, competitors, and clients into insight that can help to improve the business's value, strategies, and policies by designing data analysis methodologies, modeling data, and presenting reports to senior management.


Responsibilities

  • Business Strategy - Develop investment business cases and support commercial and strategic decision-making through market research. Explore new credible sources of marketing information and develop new analytics approaches to the business strategy. Enhance and develop new methods to communicate business intelligence to various stakeholders. Collaborate with Commercial team to develop market views.
  • Reporting - Analyze and report out on aspects of Rail commercial activity. Update, analyze and distribute weekly/monthly trend reports that are used to communicate business and industry trends to senior management. Development and update monthly/quarterly/yearly market and business updates for all stakeholders (Investor Relations, Risk, Executive Management Committee, Board of Directors, regulators, etc.). Participates in strategic analysis, research, and modeling for senior leadership Collaborates with and may lead other internal reporting projects. Provide detailed analysis of economics trends, markets, and competitors and communicate impact to the Rail business. Sources, compiles, interprets data for accuracy and efficiency and effectively communicates analysis output.
  • Business Support - Utilize various industry sources to prospect and research new customers. Develop marketing and decision support tools to support commercial and strategic decision-making. Monitor and provide detailed analysis of economic trends, markets, and competitors and communicate impact to the Rail business.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Market Analysis, Business Intelligence/Analytics

High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Market Analysis, Business Intelligence/Analytics

Required Qualifications:

  • Rail Industry Experience
  • MS Office skills, including solid Excel and PowerPoint experience, exposure to Access is preferred. Critical thinking skills, someone that takes initiative, outside the box thinking, or looking for different ways to approach data.
  • Ability to pull industry data, analyze the findings to identify industry trends, and prepare presentations to back up the data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to different levels including stakeholders and regulators.
  • Collaborate with others, and partner with team members to achieve goals.
  • Experience or exposure to Tableau, SQL, MS Access, or Power Bi desirable.

The base pay for this position is relative to your experience but the range is generally $130,000 - $165,000 per year.

Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
