Description
Purpose and Scope The Engineering and Hazardous Waste Coordinator has multiple responsibilities within the Engineering department. They are responsible for technical and administrative duties related to Tolmar's comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program focusing on disposition and disposal of hazardous waste disposal. They are also responsible for administrative duties related to Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs), change controls, continuous improvements initiatives and document change controls for the Engineering department. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste and handling of shipments. This may include but is not limited to the characterization of waste, sampling and transfer of waste between generation areas, satellite accumulation and storage areas.
- Schedule shipments with approved waste handling companies.
- Oversee the loading of hazardous waste shipments and signing manifests.
- Respond to spills per the Chemical Spill Procedures.
- Participate in required annual hazardous waste training. Hazardous waste involvement may include but is not limited to container and tank management and inspections, generation of hazardous waste as a part of production or sampling processes and transfer of hazardous waste between lab procedure area, satellite accumulation and storage. Respond to spills per the Chemical Spill Procedures.
- Maintain the Hazardous/Non-Hazardous Waste Manifest spreadsheets for all buildings and ensure all manifests are maintained according to company requirements.
- Assist in managing company emergency response processes and programs, including hazardous waste contingency plans.
- Assist in supporting, developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations, standards, programs and procedures.
- Assist in on-site EPA regulatory training for all employees.
- Partner with management and others to ensure a culture of high safety and health standards.
- Provide technical responses within the Tolmar quality system for quality related actions such as deviations, CAPAs and change controls.
- Track open CAPAs, equipment/system change controls, continuous improvement initiatives and document change controls for the Engineering team and work with Engineering staff to meet closure dates.
- Own and manage to completion CAPAs and change controls within the quality system for the Engineering team.
- Perform document change control management for the Engineering team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be comfortable in a role that includes establishing and writing safe job functions, miscellaneous safety, and environmental health procedures.
- Adequate knowledge of or ability to learn and adhere to local, state and federal hazardous waste disposal and their impact on operations.
- Proficient knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent presentation and training skills.
- Excellent communication skills-both technical writing and verbal.
- Skilled in organization, planning and follow through.
- Ability to prioritize among multiple challenges.
- Excellent self-time management skills.
- Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience in safety sciences including environmental science, safety, or hazardous waste disposal preferred.
- Experience writing technical documents preferred.
- Some experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in a cGMP environment preferred.
Working Conditions
- Working conditions include an office environment, cGMP manufacturing/warehouse and laboratory environment.
- Material handling such as packing, repacking, and moving boxes and 55 gallons drums manually or using a forklift. This will require lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour depending on experience
