Application Window Open date: May 12, 2025 Next review date: Wednesday, Jun 11, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff and student body and seeks a neurologist to lead our interdisciplinary group as a professor and director of the Parkinson and Other Movement Disorders Center (POMDC). The POMDC at UCSD is committed to the tripartite academic mission of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. The center maintains a strong research footprint, supported by a mix of nonprofit, industry, principal investigator-initiated, and NIH grant funding. Participant recruitment primarily comes from patients seen in movement disorder clinics by division faculty. The program is highly translational, with strengths in "bench-to-bedside" treatments and "hospital-to-community" interdisciplinary research. The recruitment of a clinical scientist physician whose own research program aligns with the goals and resources of the POMDC will enhance the research and clinical aims of the Center. The POMDC and its fellowship program will benefit from a senior clinician-researcher and leader in the field, who will play an important role in teaching, patient care, and research, and who can, at the same time, step into administrative and leadership roles. The successful candidate will provide outpatient care to movement disorder patients, mentor junior faculty, and teach graduate students, residents, and clinical and research fellows/staff. The selected candidate will work in our hospitals and clinics at the La Jolla and Hillcrest locations and will be encouraged to engage with a wide range of clinical, translational, and basic science programs at UCSD to enhance the national recognition of the Center's research and practice. The successful candidate will also lead the deployment of the program's significant philanthropic endowment and its robust donor stewardship program. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the POMDC's designation as a Parkinson's Disease Center of Excellence by the Parkinson's Foundation, as well as the LBD Center of Excellence designation by the Lewy Body Dementia Association and the Cure PSP Center of Care. The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience. A link to the full descriptions of each series is provided for your review: Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.
