Regulatory Intern

Utz is pleased to announce an opportunity for a Penn State student to join the team as a Regulatory Intern in our office in State College, PA. We are targeting a student that will be graduating in May 2026. This will be a summer internship [40 hours per week] with potential to work part time [20 hours per week] during the semester. The intern will be responsible for all aspects of nutrition and labeling, as well as direct responsibility for claims and regulatory compliance. This individual will work closely with several cross-functional groups including manufacturing, sales and marketing.

Responsibilities



  • Development of product labels in compliance with FDA regulations.
  • Guide compliance direction between vendors and our internal teams.
  • Primary contact for all Identify Preserved certifications. Of which include: GFCO (Gluten Free Certification Organization), Organic, Non GMO, Kosher, Whole Grains Council.
  • Maintain all certifications yearly and conduct audit preparation and scheduling to ensure compliance.
  • Represent and strengthen expertise in regulatory processes and procedures, using business knowledge to develop actionable regulatory and registration strategies.
  • Prepare and develop legally mandated label copy, ingredients statements, nutritional information, and any product feature claims in collaboration with the product portfolio, ensuring they are appropriately substantiated and documented.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and provide resolution to strategic and tactical regulatory issues pertaining to food labels.
  • Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position.
  • Responsible for ensuring food safety in all actions and responsibilities
  • Follows food safety practices and all applicable requirements of the SQF System
  • Follows instructions and training for reporting of food safety problems to appropriate personnel
  • Works with management and fellow associates to ensure Food Safety programs are followed.
  • Reports food, office or operational safety problems to a supervisor or manager for initiating action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that will impact and support the overall outcome of the company and department objectives.


Requirements



  • Pursuant of a Bachelor's degree in food science, nutrition, or comparable field is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building competencies.
  • Strong project management and complex problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication, human relations and people management skills
  • Able to be self-directed, forward thinking and make complex decisions that drive business innovation and performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent time and project management skills with proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent projects.
