Job Title
Systems Analyst 3
Location
Alabama - Huntsville - Huntsville, AL 35802 US (Primary)
Job Description

We are seeking a Systems Analyst to support a government aviation software team focused on developing the next generation of mission-critical applications and visualization tools. This role combines creative problem-solving, systems analysis, hands-on prototyping, and technical documentation to bridge communication between UX designers, software engineers, and program stakeholders.

You will operate in a highly collaborative, hands-on environment where emerging technologies are integrated with real-world aviation needs. This includes supporting early-stage prototypes, analyzing user requirements, assisting in interface design, conducting user testing, and delivering clear, standards-compliant technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate user requirements by collaborating with stakeholders to define problems, assess data availability, identify reporting needs, and resolve system design challenges.
  • Define system objectives and prepare detailed system design specifications that support user needs and interface requirements.
  • Support the development of interactive prototypes and UI/UX concepts for aviation and mission system applications.
  • Investigate and apply emerging technologies such as AI, edge analytics, and advanced data visualization to support software development and operations.
  • Analyze alternative methods of deriving input data to determine the most accurate, feasible, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Define input and output file specifications, including file organization and structure.
  • Produce technical documentation, including interface specifications, requirements documents, compliance checklists, and visual standards.
  • Work closely with software developers and systems engineers to ensure specifications are accurate, practical, and meet government standards.
  • Create visuals for embedded user guides and technical documents using markdown, diagrams, and integrated graphics.
  • Define system controls, data conversion procedures, and implementation plans, including user training and onboarding documentation.
  • Conduct user experience testing, synthesize findings, and iterate on system and interface designs accordingly.
  • Perform peer reviews of technical and program documentation to ensure completeness and clarity.
  • May provide work leadership to junior analysts or team members.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Digital Media, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in a hybrid technical/creative role such as Creative Technologist, Technical Designer, or Systems Analyst with UI/UX emphasis.
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting aerospace programs, aviation systems, or defense-related projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and editing technical documentation, including interface definitions, requirements specifications, and end-user guides, particularly in support of aviation or mission-critical systems.
  • Proficient with tools and platforms used for documentation and version control, including Git, markdown, Confluence, and similar systems.
  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC), with experience working in government, aerospace, or defense environments.
  • Strong verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences through clear storytelling and visualizations.
  • Hands-on experience with UX research methodologies, wireframing tools (such as Figma, Axure, or Adobe XD), and a solid understanding of accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
