Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.
Position Summary
The Associate Dean for Administration facilitates and supports the work of faculty and students toward academic, research, clinical practice, and community service goals and objectives by monitoring the business functions of the School. The Associate Dean serves as the chief financial officer responsible for establishing and overseeing budget planning, monitoring, and analysis of the School's complex funding structure, including four programs of study, six graduate clinical specialties and certificate programs, and state-of-the-art Biobehavioral Lab recharge center. In addition, the Associate Dean oversees human resources, information and instructional technology, and facilities, including a $94.3 million renovation. The Associate Dean for Administration reports to the Dean and has responsibility for managing the resources of the School and planning for the effective and efficient use of those resources. S/he collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Research, and the Associate Dean for Strategic Partnerships and Practice to enhance the synergy among the School's academic, research, and service practice programs. The Associate Dean is a member of the Dean's Cabinet and serves on the School of Nursing Board of Visitors. The Associate Dean works closely with other administrative officers, faculty, and staff through various standing committees, ad hoc committees, and project groups. The Associate Dean for Administration appoints, supervises, and facilitates the work of the Assistant Dean for Information and Instructional Technology ( IIT), and the Director of Administrative Services ( OAS). S/he is also responsible for the advocacy of inclusive excellence, operational efficiency, growth strategies, and faculty/staff retention.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.

Must be able to plan and execute multiple strategic initiatives on time and within budget; experience and knowledge of technology for use in administration; excellent communication (written and oral) and human relations skills; and possess skills and experience in team building, leadership, organizational planning, and negotiation. Significant experience in systems management and administration, including direct supervision of management staff, is required. Excellent financial and analytical skills required. Must be able to plan and execute multiple projects on time and within budget; experience and knowledge of technology for use in administration; excellent communication (written and oral) and human relations skills; and possess skills and experience in team building, leadership, organizational planning, and negotiation. Significant experience in systems management and administration, including direct supervision of management staff, is required.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
