Job Summary
As an accounting intern in the Controller's Office at Caltech you will work with various areas of the Controller's Office supporting special projects, as well as performing regular daily activities. These areas may include reporting, project management, process mapping and other workflow documentation, and standardizing forms and templates. The program intends intent of the program is to allow the intern to gain a practical understanding of the regular operations of the function, while providing a temporary resource to further progress on active projects.
Essential Job Duties
- Assist the team in documenting process maps, workflows, and narratives.
- Identify areas that can be streamlined and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Assist the team in reviewing current procedure and policy documentation, making detail-oriented necessary updates, and populating a central repository of such information.
- Assist the team in obtaining, analyzing, and reporting on tax, financial, and governance information of affiliates.
- Assist the team with petty cash audits.
- Assist the team with an internal audit of endowed funds.
- Research and review for the appropriate recording of the funds, and in tracking related restrictions.
- Work with Caltech staff to locate additional support, recommend necessary corrections, record the corrections, and document the results.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis.
- Assist the accounting team in tracking and managing fixed assets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to adapt behavior and approach to different people and situations, including working well independently and with teams.
- Maturity, self-confidence, and tactful assertiveness.
- Must be currently pursuing a BA/BS with an interest in business.
- Excellent organization, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work with a high degree of detail, and work with different supervisors to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Detail-oriented and thorough worker.

Hiring Range
$21.50 - $22.00 Per Hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
