Summary of the Job:

FNBO is enhancing its enterprise data and infrastructure capabilities and is seeking a Director of Database and Middleware Operations to lead operational excellence across both on-premises and cloud environments. This role is responsible for database and middleware platforms, with a focus on resiliency, automation, cloud modernization, and strategic talent development. The director will lead internal teams and a managed service partner, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable operations.

About This Role:

Strategy and Execution

  • Lead the strategy and roadmap for database and middleware operations
  • Oversee delivery and performance of database platforms, including SQL, Oracle, DB2, and AWS cloud services
  • Oversee delivery and performance of middleware platforms, including Web Services, MQ, IHS, WebLogic, and AWS middleware services
  • Drive automation using tools like Ansible and Terraform to reduce manual tasks and improve consistency
  • Align infrastructure operations with development teams through Agile and DevOps practices

Operations and Governance

  • Manage a blended team of internal staff and a managed service partner to deliver consistent, high-quality service
  • Establish and track KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics
  • Ensure operational readiness, business continuity, and compliance across all supported platforms
  • Manage vendor relationships, budgeting, and platform utilization to optimize cost and performance

Talent Development

  • Build a high-performing team culture focused on growth, innovation, and accountability
  • Develop talent plans to align skills with emerging technologies including cloud, automation, and platform engineering
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and continuous feedback to support career growth and engagement
  • Attract, onboard, and retain diverse and capable team members

Collaboration and Business Alignment

  • Build strong partnerships with application, architecture, and infrastructure teams to align operational strategy with business goals
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, ensuring technology operations evolve with changing business demand
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration, promoting shared accountability for service delivery and performance

    The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or 7+ years of experience managing complex database and middleware environments
    • 7+ years in IT leadership experience
    • Experience managing vendor relationships and service provider contracts
    • Deep expertise in data architecture, high availability, data retention, and middleware and file movement platforms

    Preferred Skills and Certifications

    • Technical knowledge in AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC), Terraform, Ansible
    • Proficiency in SQL, Oracle, Axway, Microsoft Server, and Linux Server environments
    • Strong understanding of cloud operations, including cost management, resource planning, and optimization strategies
    • AWS and related certifications preferred

    Compensation:

    Compensation range (base pay): $133,975.00-$227,758.00

    This role may have a specific starting pay within this range.

    Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
