Job Summary
The Technical Design Consultant - DC and CTO Agile NAM LV Switchboards supports the Smart Power business by providing design engineering expertise for low-voltage switchboard products. This role involves the development, implementation, and documentation of technical designs, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and safety protocols. The Technical Design Consultant will collaborate closely with cross-functional and global teams to deliver innovative solutions and support manufacturing activities.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform CAD-based design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and product requirements
- Use solid modeling software (PTC Creo/Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for designs involving plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts
- Utilize SAP or equivalent systems for supply chain management and process flow documentation
- Create and maintain technical documentation for all design work, including tolerance analyses, BOMs, cost evaluations, risk assessments, and root cause analyses
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data in alignment with engineering policies and procedures
- Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks, and testing records
- Arrange and lead design reviews, analyzing design concepts and evaluating cost effectiveness
- Coordinate engineering activities with the R&D team and provide technical support for manufacturing-related initiatives
- Participate in product development and continuous improvement efforts within a cross-functional, global engineering environment
- Travel domestically and internationally as required
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering, including product development for industrial or electrical distribution products
- Knowledge of low-voltage switchboards or related technologies; familiarity with UL 891, UL 50/50E, and NEC standards preferred
- Proficiency with design and PLM software (PTC Creo and Windchill preferred)
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functions and global teams
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
Work Schedule and Assignment Details
- Full-time position (40 hours per week)
- Assignment duration: April 1, 2024 - January 30, 2025 (with potential for extension based on business needs)
