Instrument Technician - JLL

What this job involves

As an Instrument Technician, you will perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, modifications, installations, and repairs across a wide range of central utilities systems and technologies. You'll serve as a maintenance subject matter expert in engineering areas including process design, material selection, documentation, calibration, testing, problem-solving methodology, and project management. This role requires making critical decisions related to troubleshooting, diagnostics, assembly, repair, and proactive maintenance of systems and equipment in a cost-effective manner.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Investigating equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate corrective actions
  • Documenting maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Installing, calibrating, maintaining, and inspecting process systems and instrumentation
  • Using industrial test equipment (ammeters, voltmeters, manometers, oscilloscopes) to monitor and calibrate instrumentation systems
  • Reviewing and updating preventive maintenance procedures as needed
  • Checking and qualifying electrical input/output signals and related wiring for field instrumentation
  • Working with SCADA systems to troubleshoot instrument failures and calibration issues
  • Applying safe work procedures including hot work permits, line entry, and confined space protocols
  • Completing required training through JLL and Pfizer PLS systems
  • Mentoring apprentices in related fields
  • Collaborating with team members on multi-craft work activities as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED plus either an associate degree or relevant experience
  • Completion of a company apprenticeship program or equivalent
  • Either:
    • Electrician Apprenticeship program plus minimum 5 years related instrument experience (pressure, temperature, flow, conductivity systems), OR
    • Minimum 8 years related instrument experience
  • Demonstrated aptitude in basic mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving techniques and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter
  • Physical capability to work in various conditions including exposure to hazardous materials, heights, temperature extremes, and equipment in motion
  • Willingness to work variable shifts and be on 24-hour call as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Process Instrumentation Technician certification (or Licensed Journeyman Electrician with instrument experience)
  • Experience with cGMP, commissioning, and qualification in pharmaceutical production operations
  • Knowledge of computerized automation systems
  • Experience with specialized systems including:
    • CEMS environmental monitoring
    • Breathing air systems and calibration
    • Oxygen analyzers
    • Freon sensor calibrations
    • Volatile gas sensors
    • TOC analyzers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Routinely exposed to hazardous materials, heights, temperature extremes, equipment in motion, noisy, dusty and dirty conditions, stooping, bending and heavy lifting.
  • May work variable shifts and 24 hours on call as required. Participates in multi-craft work activities as required.
  • The proper use of the correct Personal Protective Equipment for each task as well as compliance with all applicable safety Standard Procedures is a must.

Work Shift: Monday-Friday 6am-230pm
