Are you ready to make a difference in your community? The Corona Police Department is seeking dedicated, detail-oriented individuals to serve a Jailer. As a Jailer, you'll play a key role in supporting law enforcement operations. Under general supervision, the Jailer enforces and ensures the safety and well-being of detainees and arrestees until their release including the transportation of arrestees to outside facilities. Furthermore, this position is responsible for processing the admission and release of persons in custody including preparing booking reports and release forms, fingerprinting, photographing and safeguarding property entrusted to their care.
The Corona Police Department is made up of 250 staff members including officers and professional staff which is comprised of three divisions: Field Services, Investigative Services, and Support Services. Our mission is to ensure the safety and security of our community while maintaining trust through transparency. The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge & Education
- Completion of the twelfth grade (12th) or equivalent.
- Familiarity with principles and practices of prisoner supervision and control.
- Knowledge of security considerations and measures in a jail environment.
Skills & Abilities
- Enforce laws, rules, and regulations in the detainment of arrestees and inmates.
- Gain compliance from and restrain individuals consistent with departmental policies and procedures.
- Search arrestees held in custody to identify contraband and possible dangerous items.
- Assist officers in preparing prisoners for court appearances and transporting and releasing prisoners to the custody of the court.
- Interpret, apply, and explain policies, procedures, regulations, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
- Assess situations while remaining calm and using sound, independent judgment.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and written records of work performed.
- Compile and summarize information and data to prepare accurate, clear, and concise reports.
- Safely and effectively use and operate specialized equipment required for the work.
- Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
Experience
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License. To be maintained throughout employment.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass the Basic Riverside County Corrections Academy within 12 months of employment.
- Candidates with prior jailer experience are highly desirable.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt eligible for overtime compensation.

The selection process will consist of a review and evaluation of all applicants' qualifications. Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in the selection process outlined below.

Physical Agility Test |
Candidates will participate in a physical agility test which will require candidates to complete the following: 20 push-ups in one minute, 20 sit-ups in one minute and complete 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes. The applicant must successfully complete each event in order to pass the physical agility and be invited to continue on in the recruitment process. |

Those applicants with disabilities requiring reasonable accommodation for any portion of the written testing process must notify the Human Resources Department at least 72 hours in advance of the test.
Successful candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation, psychological exam, and medical exam with the Corona Police Department. Background investigation will include but is not limited to the following:
- No felony conviction(s).
- Submit to a fingerprint and criminal history check - State and Federal Bureaus.
- Good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.
- United States high school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
- No conviction(s) of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses.
- Submit to a polygraph examination.
- Successfully pass a medical examination.
- Credit history check, if established, must be satisfactory.
