Position Summary:



YUHSB seeks an innovative and visionary Science & Math Department Chair to lead a dynamic team of educators while also actively engaging in teaching. This role includes responsibilities for curriculum development, faculty mentorship, lab management, and ensuring best practices in math & science instruction, as well as teaching one section of AP Physics and one section of Mathematics.

The ideal candidate will ensure alignment with the latest advancements in STEM fields, oversee department resources, and create an engaging, inquiry-based learning environment. This position requires strong leadership, hands-on teaching expertise, and a commitment to fostering student curiosity and excellence in both mathematics and science.



Position Responsibilities:



Teaching Responsibilities



  • Teach one section of AP Physics and one section of Mathematics (specific course level to be determined based on expertise and department needs).
  • Implement innovative teaching methods that incorporate inquiry-based learning, real-world problem-solving, and interdisciplinary applications.
  • Utilize technology and laboratory experiments to enhance conceptual understanding and student engagement.
  • Assess student progress through performance-based evaluations, competency assessments, and project-based learning.


Department Leadership & Curriculum Development



  • Lead the design, review, and continuous improvement of science and math curricula, ensuring alignment with national standards.
  • Integrate emerging STEM fields such as AI, data science, and environmental sustainability into instructional practices.
  • Foster cross-disciplinary learning by coordinating with other departments on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Mentor teachers in adopting cutting-edge pedagogical strategies, including flipped classrooms, blended learning, and experiential education.


Science Lab & Physical Plant Oversight



  • Manage and maintain all science laboratory facilities, ensuring they are safe, well-equipped, and conducive to hands-on experimentation.
  • Oversee the procurement, inventory, and budgeting for laboratory supplies, chemicals, and specialized equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, hazardous materials handling, and regulatory guidelines in lab environments.


Assessment & Data-Driven Decision Making



  • Utilize student performance data to assess instructional effectiveness and guide curriculum adjustments.
  • Ensure diverse assessment strategies, including performance-based and competency-based evaluations, to measure student mastery effectively.
  • Monitor national and state assessment trends, adapting instruction to maximize student success in standardized testing and college readiness.


STEM Advocacy & Community Engagement



  • Develop programs that connect students with STEM careers, competitions, and research opportunities.
  • Strengthen relationships with Yeshiva University, research institutions, and industry leaders to provide students with cutting-edge exposure to STEM fields.



Experience & Educational Background:




  • Master's degree in Science, Mathematics, STEM Education, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Teaching certification and a minimum of 5 years of classroom experience in science or math education.
  • Experience teaching AP Physics and advanced Mathematics courses.
  • Prior leadership experience, preferably as a department chair, instructional coach, or curriculum specialist.
  • Strong background in curriculum development, lab management, educational technology, and innovative instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and support both students and faculty.



Skills & Competencies:




  • Experience in grant writing and securing funding for STEM initiatives.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools for tracking student performance and curriculum effectiveness.
