Director- Application Engineering

We are seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Application Engineering Leader to join our team. This strategic role bridges customer application insight with internal product innovation by identifying unmet needs, generating breakthrough product ideas, and driving product and process development strategies. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of performance-critical applications such as aerospace, medical devices, energy systems, or extreme environments and a passion for transforming field knowledge into next-generation material solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification of unmet application needs across target industries and convert insights into actionable product development programs.
  • Define key performance requirements and work cross-functionally to accelerate feasibility assessments and prototyping.
  • Compile and analyze market and competitive intelligence, including patents and standards, to inform innovative strategies.
  • Generate, validate, and champion new material concepts with system-level impact and field relevance.
  • Collaborate with commercial and technical teams to support early-stage customer conversations and technical marketing initiatives.
  • Track evolving industry standards and certifications to ensure future-ready product development.
  • Contribute to the innovation pipeline through ideation, use-case development, and business case formulation.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Training
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years in application engineering, product development, or technical marketing preferably within the metals, aerospace, energy, or medical sectors.
  • Strong expertise in specialty alloys (e.g., high-performance stainless steels, superalloys, titanium) and their manufacturing techniques.
  • Proven ability to convey complex technical concepts across disciplines and in customer-facing contexts.
  • Experience collaborating across functions to define product specifications and reduce development cycles.
