Responsibilities

Cobol Programmer (Software Engineer III) - This is a remote casual opening, this is not a full time position.

    Engineer business applications utilizing COBOL and JCL in a mainframe environment.
  • Develop procedures and operating instructions using CONNECT:DIRECT facility
  • Update or revises existing COBOL programs, systems, and procedures to correct deficiencies and maintain more effective data handling, conversion, and storage.
  • Responsible for the design, coding, testing and validation of programs that solve engineering related problems
  • Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results
  • Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment
  • Analyzes user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
  • Designs and codes new software or modifies existing software to add new features; debugs existing software and corrects defects
  • Integrates existing software into new or modifies systems or operating environments
  • Develops simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Works closely with end-users and/or internal project teams to develop detailed technical requirements and specifications for the development of the software element for complex systems
  • Directs the development of the architecture, detailed system design, coding, integration, testing and configuration management schemes for software systems


Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience
  • 4 - 9 years of experience

Preferred:

  • In-depth knowledge of mainframe architecture with four or more years of software programming and testing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in one or more of the following technologies: COBOL and JCL
  • Firm knowledge of CA1, CA7, CA11, JCL, SDSF, TSO, JES2, ENDEVOR, CA-APCDOC and Compuware mainframe products.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Medicare Common Working Files (CWF) and the Nation Claims History (NCH) file structures is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with relational databases to facilitate software programming.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of software programs. Must exhibit well-developed programming skills.
  • Utilize Software Engineering Life Cycle best practices.
  • Able to capture and document business requirements.
  • Good personal computer and business solutions software skills.
  • Ability to work as part of team and independently when necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with team members and functional business community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively with team members, support personnel, and end users.
