Job Summary:



The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) is the senior administrative and financial leader for the Department of Otolaryngology. Reporting directly to the Department Chair, with a dotted line to the School of Medicine's Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Finance, the DFA provides strategic and operational leadership across all business and administrative functions, ensuring the alignment of financial, clinical, educational, and research activities with departmental and institutional goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Financial Leadership



  • Oversee all departmental financial activities including budgeting, forecasting, fund management, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of funding sources (state appropriations, grants, endowments, clinical revenues).
  • Provide fiscal oversight for strategic planning, faculty and staff recruitment, compensation, and investment decisions.
  • Regularly advise the Chair and department leaders on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.


Clinical Operations & Revenue Cycle



  • Partner with CU Medicine and clinical leadership to optimize billing, collections, and revenue cycle performance.
  • Develop provider productivity dashboards and recommend improvements in clinical operations to enhance efficiency and revenue.
  • Lead business planning and evaluation for clinical expansions, new practice sites, and joint ventures.


Administrative & Human Resources Management



  • Lead and manage administrative staff; oversee recruitment, performance management, and professional development.
  • Coordinate faculty appointment processes, promotions, tenure reviews, and grievance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and best practices in personnel management.


Facilities & Resource Management



  • Oversee space planning, renovations, equipment procurement, and facilities operations.
  • Participate in long-range planning for departmental growth and resource allocation.


Program Development & External Relations



  • Identify and pursue new funding sources, grant opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Support department fundraising initiatives and public relations efforts.
  • Represent the department on School of Medicine committees and external stakeholder groups



Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of professional level administration and/or operations experience to include at least 5 years of fiscal responsibilities.
  • Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level management experience that included fiscal management responsibilities within a complex health care, academic or biomedical research setting.

    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.




Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • A master's degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field.
  • Eight (8) years of experience working in a health care or academic medical setting.
  • Four (4) years of clinical management experience.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $140,000 to $180,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
