This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the Research Finance Analyst supports administrative leadership with short and long-range financial planning for the Research Division within the Department of Psychiatry. Provides tactical and strategic advice and guidance to the Administrative Vice Chair, Associate Business Officer, Director of Psychiatry Sponsored Projects Administration, and Research Finance Manager. Coordinates annual budgeting, control adjustments, and reporting on research faculty compensation. Administers internal controls to assess and manage risk in research finance and faculty research program support and deficit management. Manages, prepares, and administers research division budgets and recommends opportunity improvements for financial planning and control. Monitors research division adherence to approved budgets. Supports Fund Managers as needed with complex analysis of research faculty financial portfolios. Develops reporting tools and supports Fund Managers with preparation of faculty financial statements and ad hoc division summary reports. The scope and complexity of this position requires the ability to work autonomously. Accountability for errors and problem resolution is required. The position will help to coordinate the activity of ad hoc teams when deemed appropriate.

In addition to other responsibilities, the incumbent will be a resource for resolving faculty salary issues and preparing analyses of faculty salary sources, adjustment of salaries consistent with negotiated agreements. Incumbent may perform audit and analytical tasks, including variance analysis, fund management and reconciliation of ledger accounts. Incumbent will understand foundational knowledge on research and clinical activities of DOP faculty. Assist with other project and miscellaneous duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.

  • Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

  • Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to function as a member of a team.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

  • Advanced statistical knowledge and financial background to analyze and drill down computer generated data to aid in strategic planning and dissemination of information on business processes.

  • Proven experience in preparing research reports including a financial dashboard for monitoring and analyzing various sponsored research programs; extensive experience in reconciling research financial information. Demonstrated experience coordinating annual budgeting, control adjustments, and reporting on research faculty compensation.

  • Thorough experience in analyzing the budget data to most recent actual expenses and reviewing the final budget figures in budget Modules. Proven experience in preparing monthly financial reports for research mission to leadership.

  • Strong demonstrated expertise in preparing detailed departmental Profit & Loss statements, and financial status reports for sponsored research programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring the finances of sponsored research programs, service agreements, and MOU's and provide analytical support for those administrators and financial support.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial management related to contracts and grants, including monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc requests; tracking budget to actual, billing reconciliation, and acting as subject matter expert.

  • Expertise in implementing process improvement and report enhancements as able for the most efficient and effective financial information.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $36.88 - $66.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
