Job Summary

GateWay Community College is now hiring a great new role! The Athletic Head Coach position administers and supervises assigned sports program(s). They will also provide/deliver and oversee all matters related to student athlete recruitment.

Essential Functions

25% - Plans, manages and implements coaching strategy and practice training sessions for student athletes in accordance with established regulations

25% - Organizes, provides for and oversees the recruitment of prospective student athletes including the evaluation of student athletes in areas of academics, athletic ability and character

10% - Plans and manages the overall development of the student athlete including academic success, character building, and team discipline

10% - Serves as a program liaison with campus representatives, community service providers, alumni development representatives and others in the promotion of academics and campus/community support partnerships

10% - Plans and implements athletic promotional programs and related fundraising efforts

10% - Oversees and ensures students and programs comply with NJCAA, MCCCD, Region I and ACCAC regulations, policies and procedures

10% - Plans and administers assigned budget; monitors program expenditures and budget compliance

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in physical education, sports management, sports coaching, kinesiology, recreation therapy, athletic training, sport psychology, or another field related to athletics or sports, management, communications, health, coaching, or a similar discipline, and four (4) years of experience as an athletic coach, preferably at the college level, which includes recruiting experience and two (2) years of senior level or lead experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with college level recruiting and/or demonstrated familiarity with Arizona high school/club softball athletics.

B. Minimum of one (1) year coaching a high school/college/university softball/baseball team promoting academic achievement, and consistently placing student-athletes into "next level" colleges and/or universities.

C. Minimum of one (1) year demonstrated experience with the academic advisement of student-athletes.

D. Experience in other athletics department related responsibilities such as: game management duties, civic engagement projects and monitoring study hall and etc.

E. Minimum of one (1) year experience with NJCAA or NCAA or NAIA eligibility and rule compliance.

F. Minimum of one (1) year experience with development of college level softball programs.

Special Working Conditions

  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
