Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.
Applicants must have good knowledge of New York State laws; good knowledge of the rules and regulations of the college Public Safety Office; good knowledge of safety issues; ability to carry out oral and written directions; ability to deal effectively with people; ability to act quickly in an emergency situation; initiative; good judgment; mental alertness; tact and courtesy; good physical condition.
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or closely related field and one (1) year of experience in a law enforcement agency or security /safety force; or
(b) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement agency or security /safety force; or
(c) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:
a) Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Municipal Police Trained Police Officer; or
(d) Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in a law enforcement agency or security /safety force.
(e) Candidates must have twenty-four (24) hours of New York State Security Guard License courses completed prior to assignments
The duties involve the responsibility of public safety on the college campus. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Safety:
* Enforce the laws of the State of New York;
* May summon local police, fire departments and ambulance services in cases of
law violation, fire or other emergencies;
* Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots;
* Patrol the campus on foot or in a patrol vehicle to protect people and property,
maintain order and ensure compliance with college rules and regulations;
* Investigate complaints received personally or as assigned by the supervisor;
* Investigate motor vehicle accidents on campus;
* Enforce traffic and parking regulations;
* Supervise lower-level Campus Security Officer's and Parking lot Attendant on
routine duties and at special events;
* Enforce compliance with fire and safety regulation;
* Respond to medical emergencies and provide assistance based on level of
training;
* Give information and directions to students and visitors;
* Keep records and make oral, computer and written reports;
* Operate radio, telephone, computer and other dispatching equipment;
* Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the Director of Public
Safety.
There are multiple part-time positions available with a starting hourly rate of $26.30.
