Job Summary Job Description Position Description: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate to support the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department during the Summer 2025 period. This temporary, part-time role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact scientific initiative focused on ocean iron fertilization (OIF) field research in the high seas. The position is fully remote, though occasional in-person meetings may be required with federal agency staff in the Washington, D.C. area. The successful candidate will work closely with the ExOIS Program Office (PO) and WHOI team members via regular virtual collaboration. The selected candidate will assist the ExOIS PO in the coordination and preparation of materials required for the application of a permit for ocean iron fertilization (OIF) field research in the high seas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Analyze scientific data from field and lab experiments related to OIF permitting Apply creativity in adapting or modifying research methods to meet project goals Prepare written content for scientific articles, technical reports, and research documentation Support communication with stakeholders including scientists, legal experts, philanthropies, and government agencies May assist with the calibration and troubleshooting of research instruments or preparations for field research activities Non-Essential Functions: As deemed necessary by supervisor MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience Master's degree in a specifically related field with minimal relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree in a related field with several years of relevant experience Broad understanding of ocean sciences and Mcdr Experience with the preparation & production of reports and/or manuscripts Excellent communications skills are needed in order to interact efficiently with government agencies, philanthropies, natural and social scientists and governance/legal experts Additional Job Requirements Additional Job Description Physical Requirements Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift less than 25 lbs. independently, 2 times per day; carry 10-25 lbs., 2 times per day. Visual abilities to include near, far, peripheral, depth perception, and an ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions, communicate effectively in loud areas (pier/dock, warehouse). Other physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic/fine grasping and manipulation, repetitive motion, reaching above and below the shoulders, pushing, pulling, keeling, bending, twisting, and stooping. Other occupational requirements include talking, traveling, working around others, and with others. Will be exposed to dust or other irritants and electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards. Physical duties are subject to change.
