Lead, Data and Model Ethics

The AI Enablement team, part of the Data and Analytics function, is responsible for ensuring governance practices that support the company's leadership and delivery of world-class data and AI enabled solutions. TheData and Model Ethics Leadwill be a critical member of this team, supporting the enterprise with building and delivering ethical and trustworthy technology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, design and implementation of ethics best practices and ways of working, related to explain ability and fairness, across the enterprise. The focus will be to ensure our teams' use of data and development of models are using state of the art ethics enhancing tools and techniques. In the immediate the role will focus on topics such as fairness/bias, explain ability, privacy and accountability, and will evolve over time to address the pace of ethics trends and regulation. Working closely with our data and model stewardship and technology teams, the successful candidate will be a go-to resource for advising on ethical implementation and compliance best practices.

About the Role:

In this opportunity as Lead, Data and Model Ethics you will

  • Partnering with our legal counsel, you will monitor and report on the latest developments in legislative and regulatory instruments as it pertains to key ethics principles around explain ability,fairness and other areas of ethics- global, with a focus on North American and European jurisdictions

  • Partnering with our technology teams on the identification, development, and scaling of best practices, tools and techniques to comply and accelerate Thomson Reuters' leadership in ethical use of data and AI. This includes interpretability and explain ability approaches, as well as the detection and mitigation of biases in structured and unstructured data.

  • Working closely with Data and Model Stewards and stakeholders as a specialist consultant on data and AI projects across the organization - advising on techniques and tool implementation, research, and latest developments around explain ability and fairness. Provide guidance around known explain ability/ fairness/performance trade-offs

  • Ensure that data and AI ethics policies and guiding standards are inclusive of the requirements necessary to meet the growing demands within your area of expertise - drafting new policies where necessary

  • Provide support and drive adoption of data and AI ethics and governance matters to colleagues across the organization - developing strategy and success metrics

  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership and related educational resources both within the organization and externally

  • Participate in data and AI governance policy and standard creation, management, and analyzing potential impacts of policy choices under consideration

About You:

You're a fit for the role of Lead, Data & Model Ethics, if your background includes:

  • Strong familiarity with developments and trends in ethical data and trustworthy AI - e.g. EU, UN, and other major players

  • Demonstrated understanding of data and model governance activities including oversight mechanisms, documentation, development processes

  • Expert and rising leader within critical ethics domains and communities, specifically around explainability and fairness

  • Knowledge of global data and AI privacy principles and regulations(experience working with GDPR/Canadian Privacy Act an advantage)

  • Strong familiarity with data management, ModelOps and traditional software development life cycles - an asset

  • You have deep technical knowledge and experience in data management, data governance, and/or data quality exploring, analyzing, profiling, manipulating data sets (e.g. Cloud, Data Lake, SQL, Python, Alteryx...)

  • You are a solutions-oriented critical thinker with strong influencing and networking skills

  • You demonstrate the ability to translate technical/business issues and requirements into actionable plans, and to deliver against those plans

  • You have the capability to work autonomously and make independent decisions to meet deliverables with minimal oversight

  • 4-6 years of academic or industry experience, ideally within the domains of data management and responsible AI

  • Considered a strong asset - Masters degree or higher -higher education and certifications within the fields of data management, machine learning and AI, and/or technology ethics

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $116,900 - $217,100.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
