FOX Entertainment Studios is seeking a pathfinder senior executive to join our team as Vice President, Development - Scripted Drama. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and inspired creative executive with significant experience in the development and sales of television programs to become a key contributor to the FOX Entertainment Studios development team. Reporting to the head of development, the Vice President, Development - Scripted Drama will build and manage a scripted drama television slate representative of our FES brand with the support of the drama team. The Vice President, Development - Scripted Drama will have a direct impact on the formulation of an aggressive, forward-looking slate and strategy for the FOX network and 3rd parties across the drama genre.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Within scripted drama programming -

  • Create and execute a slate mandate with the head of development
  • Identify new business opportunities and secure talent for projects
  • Identify, collaborate, and cultivate relationships with top writers, directors, producers, and the entertainment community at large (agents, managers, buyers, other studio executives) to communicate the creative needs and capabilities of FOX Entertainment Studios and be competitive in the market
  • Develop innovative concepts, scripts, and pilots
  • Solicit new material; hear and respond to pitches; evaluate new project submissions (scripts, books, articles, etc.), and read and analyze scripts, stories, and outlines to assess their value as it relates to the creative direction of the studio
  • Sell slate into the marketplace, seeking both new opportunities and feeding our home Network of FOX
  • Manage development phases from original pitch through greenlight
  • Manage related pre-production, and with current production and post-production stages, to ensure their creative integrity
  • Act as the primary brand manager for each show, including providing creative thoughts on pitches, outlines, and scripts. On greenlight, work in tandem with the Current team on table reads, dailies, and rough cuts of episodes through season 1
  • Guide, coordinate, and update various internal departments with information required to successfully launch and maintain series assets
  • Collaborate with Production, Business Affairs, Casting, Current, and other departments to supervise, from a creative standpoint, the pre-production and post-production activities of all shows. In particular, provide creative feedback on dailies, rough cuts, and all aspects of post-production as it pertains to the development process

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 10+ years of experience in television development with a significant tenure within either a TV broadcast, cable network, studio, or established independent production company
  • Keen understanding of storytelling as it applies to the creation of winning, successful scripted content
  • Imaginative, innovative mindset with a strong combination of creative sensibility and keen business acumen
  • Excellent note writer with strong communication skills and the ability to present his/her views in a clear and compelling manner
  • Proven track record of selling television projects to buyers
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a creative strategist in a highly entrepreneurial, fast-growing, and collaborative business environment, as well as a track record at selecting and developing material that is trendy, innovative, and compelling
  • Ability to function in a complex, fast-paced, and demanding environment; an entrepreneurial drive and passion for the business, the content, and the audience
  • Ability to think outside the box and encourage this thinking among team members
  • Strong, established relationships with key players in the TV industry, including talent, agents, production companies, producers, writers, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment as well as diverse constituencies, and both creative and business personality types

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $150,000.00-190,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
